New chassis - bournemouth & southampton

Hi,

I am a bit new to all this, got the book, seen a few sites, very interested in building a car for racing in the 750 locost series and hopefully also road legal for weekend fun...

My question is, can I build my own chassis from scratch? or do I have to use a pre-made chassis to compete? If I can build my own, is there any detailed plans on the net?

Also, is there any builders here in Bournemouth (where I am)/ southampton? I am interested in getting to know others in my area either starting out, or people that have been through it all before.

Anyone know what my local SVA and DVLA VRO office is like, I think the local SVA is in Southampton, and my local VRO is in Bournemouth... Nazi's or nice guys????

Jon

Home built chassis's are allowed.
Have a look at Jim McSorley's web site for plans.

I hope someone else's poor opinion of the local VRO and SVA guys wouldn't stop you going ahead if you decide to.
I think you should go ahead and do it, then you can tell us how it all worked out.

Great, perhaps I am mad, but the idea of as I like the idea of as much of the car as possible being self made.

Looks cool, any other plans out there?

Noooo..... I just want a little prior warning of what the local guys are hot or get pedantic about... last thing I want is to fail the SVA on something stupid.

On the subject of failing an SVA, whats the proceedure? book another test and pay the full fee? or just an MOT style re-test? or will they let you make minor alterations on the spot?

As far as I have read in 2 years of my build.....

you will be lucky to pass first time - bit like a driving test or an MOT!

You can make small alterations during the test.

If you fail the retest fee is about 30 quid and it takes a couple weeks for the retest.

got all my forms but still about 9 months away for the test i recon!
