Headlight Mounting Bar
This might sound like a lighting/electrics matter, but I'm still refining my chassis fittings. I need to locate the headlamp bar, & fasten
it to the upper chassis rail.
So - Q1: How far back from LC (the front end of the chassis) should this bar be? Q2: What dimension have other builders used, and with which nose
cones?

Dick,
When I bought my nosecone, it had mouldings to accomodate the headlight mounting bar. Most nose cones I've seen are the same.

Dick, I reckon it would be better to settle on a nosecone first and then mount the bar wherever that particular nosecone has it's gaps. Like
Ian said, most of them already have this gap moulded in.

I've a Triton nosecone, and can measure the distance if you like. I'm off to work, so won't be able to let you know before Tuesday.

Whatever position you put the bar, make sure you position the headlamps high enough to meet SVA requirements AND make sure on full bounce the
wheel/cycle wing doesn't smack it!!
I agree with others, it's best to get the nosecone and see if it has a cutout to suit a bar.
A lot of people forget just how much stress is placed upon this bar by the weight of the headlamps acting on one spot, so it's worth making a
strong bar.
To keep the weight stress down I changed to 5 inch headlamps from 7. Can't say I noticed much difference in lighting output. Suffice to say they
work well on a dark country road at speed

Thanks for all the feedback, guys.
Looks like I'll have to buy the fibreglass parts, and set up the nosecone as suggested.

Did anyone measure this?
How far back from the front end of the chassis have people mounted the headlight bar? My MK nosecone doesn't have a cutout for the bar so I have
no reference.

The MK headlight bar sits on the chassis directly above the top shocker mounting brackets. The headlight bar MK manufacture has the holes for mounting
pre-drilled. Have a look in our photo archive at the Red Rocket build, this should give you an idea.

This is something I've been thinking about.
To minimise the chance of the wheels hitting the lights on lock they need to be mounted as close to the pivot point (effectively in line with the top
shock mounting) as possible.
What are peoples opinion on the height of the lamps? I personally like the Caterham look where the lights are above the front wings I presume that if
they are lower the wheels might block some of the light output.
I was going to use square (or maybe retangular) section making the ends turn up at about 70 degrees or so (need to work out the exact measurments)
just where the bar exits the nose cone. Potentially I was thinking of adding a small gusset plate to strengthen the join and to provide a mounting
below the headlight for a set of small spot lights for extra illumination.

Does the headlight bar have to be radiused for sva? i was planning to integrate my headlight bar with the top suspension mounts, i think stevem has
done it this way.
