Steering Column Mounting
Just as I thought I was nearly there, I have to redo my steering column mounting as there was too much movement in the structure when you gave the
steering wheel a good tug.
I am struggling to come up with something neat. Does anybody have any photos of there steering column mounting they could share.
The one I made this evening consisted of a bit of box section across the car (behind the dash) with two box section uprights to bolt the column to,
but again was to flexible. I guess that it needs to attach between the side of the transmission tunnel and the top chassis rail.
SWHBO can sense the end is near and is not moaning (well, not too much) about me being out there in the evenings as well as the weekend. Bless
her!!!
Cheers,

My effort, welded some nuts into the tube and a washer further down, just bolts in.
I welded diagonals from the middle to the edge of the rear of the scuttle, it braces on this.

Mine is pretty robust, a 5mm plate supported by 1" tube off the side rail the tunnel and a third to the bulkhead rail. you can see if you look
at the on its wheels photos in my archive. It is set up to allow the adjustable column to adjust!

Heres the GTS method.
Theres a tube run across inside the scuttle, and then two 3mm plates bent at 90deg to bolt the column to.

Mine is a bit of lateral thinking (and using what I had lying around) I couldn't think of any other way to allow an adjustable column to move up
and down and a stainless door hinge seemed a logical choice.

When thinking outside the box doesn't work any more, it's time to build a new box
