Fixing Chipped Powder Coat
My chassis has areas where stones etc have eaten away at the powder coating. Like so: -
Chassis Rust
What's the best way for me to remedy this? I presume I need to clean the rust away (wire brush?) and any flaky paint. What then, just hammerite
or something below like that red stuff? Will the paint "stick" to the chassis and the powdercoat so it won't peel again? I know
it's not going to look lovely powdercoat smooth, but my priority is to protect it before it becomes more than surface rust.

Hi Sy,
Anything that will unbolt (eg wing stays) you can have sand blasted and powder coated and theey will be like new again. There is a really good guy at
West Tanfield up the A1 from you.
The chassis is a bit trickier and you will need to get rid of the rust and paint - I just go around with acrylic spray or smoothrite every now and
then to touch in chips and scuffs.
Cheers

I may be a bit fussy, but most of my smaller parts (oh er missus!) were plated (oh er again) before powder coating.
I think the other recommended paint is PQR 15?

Once powder coat starts lifting it is never going to stop as rust gets underneath and keeps going. Only solution is to strip it all off the smaller
bits and either re coat or paint with good thick paint. The chassis will need the powder coat cut back until you are stripping it off clean metal then
rustproof followed by good paint and possibly stone chip finish on the bits you don't see.

use electrolisis (link on here someware) to remove rust on small bits , treat with etch primer then good quality paint. best way to stop rust is keep
it clean and wash off road salt. (dont like powder coating had minr done but with hind sight I'd have painted it!
(paint the bits you cant see with waxoil)
