Fuel tank alternative
Has anyone used a fuel tank from a donor with any success. I saw a piccie with one from a spitfire and it looks like it could fit. Any comments
greatly appreciated

I've heard that the spitfire tank fits in nicely (and I'm sure someone has done it). I also bid on one on ebay and lost it
I can't be sure but I think someone has mentioned the use of a Vauxhall Chevette petrol tank as a donor (not sure if it was saloon, hatchback or
estate though)

It was Me!!
It's the saloon, don't get the one from the hatch as it's all wrong. The saloon one is between the boot and the back seat so it
comes out brand new.
Its big tho 10 gals, and nearly fills the back of my (+4) car.
I can measure it up if any one's interested.
Cheers
Chris

Chris,
How is your's mounted? I've got a part built +4" with a tank from a Shuvit. It's mounted vertically with the sender on the
side of the tank.
Looks a resonable installtion, though I'm a little worried about getting a fuel guage working with some reasonable accuracy.

PS I'm in Sheffield too.

The tank from a mini van / estate / pick up may well fit. On the mini it goes across the back behing the sub frame, under the boot floor with a filler
on the off-side. Holds six gallons. It is probably about the right size - I can get approximate dimensions if anyone wants (helped by the fact we have
a mini estate!)
I am planning to have a look at this tank with a view to fitting one.

Andrew,
mines mounted by the same holes that are used on the Chevette on to brackets across the bottom and by two straps into the holes at the top welded to
the back rail.
My digi cams bust but I could mail you a sketch if you like.
Cheers

I doubt the mini special tank would be any use - it is probably one from the standard mini which sits inside the rear corner of the boot - the mini
van tank is much more the locost shape.

I've used a Spitfire tank, and it fits like a glove.

Shouldn't it fit like a fuel tank?
Cock off or cock on. You choose.

Read somewhere that someone had used one out of a van.
Can't tell you where, or which van though.
Not much use today...

Checkout the spun aluminum tanks that sand rails use. They come in diameters from 6"to10" and lengths from 15" to 36".
I have'nt got that far yet, but I was going to look at these when I did.
Oh, they run $45 to$80 here.

Can't remember the exact capacity, but it's a tad under ten gals. Can send you a couple of pics if you want?
