The differance between the kits

Right guys still waiting for the book from Ebay to come to tell me how to make the roadster.

A locost chassis is i assume one made from the 2 books?

What is the difference in the Mk chassis then?

Ive heard it mentioned that the books chassis is 50mm wider

I dont know if i should buy a chassis complete from MK or build my own,If i built my own i want a full cage like the MK. Would this fit or again would it be to narrow and id have to make my own

Haynes Roadster

The Haynes Roadster is 50mm wider than the standard Locost book chassis.

I think the book when it arrives will give you great enthusiasm to build.
Very clear to follow & comprehensive.

Although the book chassis only covers a single roll bar, I know MK have fitted a full cage to the Roadster.
Most likely, they still have the cad files.

Dont forget to have a look at the Haynes Roadster forum.
You will find all of the latest book updates there.

the main of the MK chassis is as 'book'. by book, i mean locost, not haynes roadster.

the main difference from book is that the sides are 14" high as opposed to 13" for a locost. also, it has independent rear suspension and a slightly different transmission tunnel and footwells if we're being pedantic.

i shouldn't imagine it'd be a problem for MK to bend the hoops 50mm wider for a roadster cage. martin did mine as a special anyway.

How to build a sports car for under £250 and race it
Linky on locostbuilders homepage
You could always go the same way as me and use a completely different engine to everyone else and modify the chassis. Mine is based on the haynes roadster but the nose is 6 inches wider and the engine bay is 6 inches longer to accommodate my 6 pot and maybe V12 post SVA.
Im also using the jag rear axle, front wishbones, steering, hubs even the rear lights
It will be very heavy but also quite locost. I have most of the parts already and have only spent £200. £500 if you include the donor

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?
