Wishbones and Carpi LSD's

Hi all,

How wide is the track at the front and rear of a standard chassis? (using escort axle) Also how much wider is a Capri LSD in comparison?

My reason for asking is: With a wider McSorley 442 chassis will the track at the front will be increased despite using standard wishbones? If so how close will it be to that of the Capri LSD? Close enough to get away with? Or is it just the section nearest the cockpit that’s wider to give a larger tapered section (in order to use a standard 26’ nosecone).

Trying to work out how much wider I need to make my front wishbones...

Hi Max,

You are correct that the cockpit is wider and the taper is greater than the book on the 442; it all comes together at the magical 26" wide at 12" back marker. For that reason, the front "track" of the McSorley 442 is not identical to the book, but it is very close.

I can to make up a drawing of the front mount points so you can compare that geometry to your Capri axle (the simple math should be very telling). Because the 442's mount points are very similiar to the book, The front track would be much less than the rear using book wishbones.

I recently heard that MK's indy wishbones are either 4.5" longer on each side or 4.5" overall... The former would make the front much wider than the rear, were as the latter would be almost ideal for the 442. It's generally ok to have the track off by a little and a wider front is often considered better by racing guys (like Carrol Smith).

If someone has a dimensioned drawing of the book uprights, then I could produce wishbone drawings for the 442 chassis to match. Can't promise a suitable camber change through bump/droop, but I can at least get you a rough idea.
