Type 9 box to MK2 Diff?
Hi, ive just bought a (very) unfinished locost project and have just got round to putting the engine in.
Im using a 2.0 sierra lump with a type 9 gearbox.
The chassis has already got the rear axle from an escort MK2 in place, and the brakets and mounts for the rear suspension have already been
fabricated, however the diff doesnt seem to line up centrally with the box.
Does the mk2 axle sit off centre normally. or is this one fixed up wrong. Will this cause a problem?
It's off centre by about one inch.
Thanks.

As long as the wheel hub faces are equidistant from the centre it should be OK. A "normal" tunnel for an Escort axle has an angle on the
driver's side to cater for the offset of the diff

have another look, the tunnel on locosts is not perfectly straight, the rear of the tunel on the drivers side kicks out a bit. I was paniciing until i
asked on here. Not sure if its the same issue, but thought I'd post my experience.

Yes it is normal for the diff to be offset. They don't centre it because UJ's on propshafts wear very quickly if they run in line.

You can get a basic idea of how offset it is by looking in my archieve from a couple of years ago, picture chassis 4 11/2/04 gives a bit of a view.
Afraid the rest of pics were on old computer when hard drive went bang
