Move the engine or move the tube??
Having decided to use a Toyota 20v instead of the 16v I have a slight dilema. The water pump housing being in a different place means it now fouls the
crossmember Q in 'the book'. This means either moving the motor and gearbox 50 cms foreward or keeping my mounts as is and cutting Q
before positioning it 50 cms rearwards and adding some bracing. Moving the mounts is easier but makes the weight less central and my diff too short.
Moving the tube has stress implications. Your thoughts/experiences would be appreciated.

I may be wrong but i would move the tube but make sure there is enough strength left and if nessercery add another 
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Move the tube and add some triangulation is my choise.

is it just the bit above the bell housing that needs moving?
an mk chassis doesn't have a J tube. if you want to maintain the strength in the chassis, move it back 50mm and gusset it either side of the
longitudinal tubes or replace it with an x between the footwells.
an MK chassis is fine without it, but that doesn't mean it's right.

Yes, just above the bellhousing - move the tube seems to be the answer. Regards.

Tube is out now so that ends the discussion! checked with a micrometer and there is no discernable flex without the tube but I'll fully brace it
anyways. Thanks for all the advice. Makes swinging the engine+gearbox in and out a thousand times easier too!
