750mc Locost Suspension
I've aquired a chassis that after a bit of sorting will be adequate for racing use.
i'm now pressing on and thinking about which suspension is best for use in the 750mc race series.
I am after the following info / opinions:
What is the best make of coilvers?
What length dampers?
What rate springs?
Many thanks,
Dan

Just remember that you can't use aluminium bodied dampers so that rules out Protech.

You can use Protech shocks! Matt at Procomp does a good range of these shocks all dyno'd up and ready to go for the championship! I would defo
recommend you speaking to Matt before you buy anything. If ya need any help or info on the racing front just drop me a line. Will you be at Cadwell
this weekend?

Gary,
I'm going to be at cadwell on saturday. I have 10 million questions, so any help will be very welcome.
At the moment I'm concentrating on geting the chassis up on wheels, so I'm after the uprights and hub assembys, and i'm going to
order the steel for the wishbones tomorrow, then I just need bushes, and coilovers.
I have the rear axle off a mk1 escort and rear trailing arms / panhard, I also have a quick rack so that should be everything included in a rolling
chassis?
Do you race?

Hi,
Gary does race and he is damn quick.
Come over and have a chat with me if you have time as together with a few experienced racers we have collated a Novice race pack giving the newbie a
guide to what you need when starting which includes, essential numbers, a pre meeting checklist, a large technical tips section, trackday guide, the
drivers and their level of expertise, and many other useful items.
I have only been racing in locost the last part of last year and this season but can guarantee you will not find a group more helpful to guide you.

Thanks Andy.
What format is the race pack in? I would really like to see that!!
I'm finding everything very overwhelming at the moment.
There are things that I never concidered before, that i'm sat googling trying to work out, like
What steering column should i use?
What to do for a pedal box?
What coilovers?
Where to start with a wiring loom?
There all little things that need to be addressed instages so at the moment i'm concentrating on getting to a rolling chassis stage.
Does anyone have any old tyres that they are going to bin that I can put on the wheels, to get the car sat on its wheels?
Its going to be really good to meet you all at cadwell.
Cheers,
Dan

If you call Nigel at AVO and ask for a set with my valving (Simon Wood, although they call me Ward) you wont go wrong.
You need to make sure your shocks are the right length for racing and ride height so put the chassis on blocks and work on a shock shaft to have 1/2
to 2/3 showing.
350 to 400 lb front, 125 to 150 rear.

The shock length depends on the fixing points, which can be very car specific.
I run 10 and 11 inch dampers which gives me about 50/50 on the front and 60 % shaft showing on the rear.
If you find the length is not right AVO can provide a range of different steel extensions for the top mount.
Once you find the right shock length, then its Spring time.
If you look in the DT cat, AVO have all the opening and closing lengths and suggested springs.

AARRRGGGG!!!
I've spent 3 hours cutting and grinding the chassis, as it originally had all the panels welded on but these have been cut away leaving a nasty
job of removing odds and sods of welds and overlayed steel. I bet my neighbors love me!!

I got bored with all that when I had a Locost chassis so I bought an Autotune Gemini kit instead and swapped the Locost chassis for an engine - worth
a thought perhaps......
Only joking Dan

I'm going to stick with it, and maybe buy some ear plugs as my ears haven't stopped ringing from yesterday!!!
When are you collecting your kit?

Hi Dub, come and say hello at cadwell If you get time after seeing everyone else!! I built my car including the chassis from scratch so may be able
to help you out with build questions, although my mate who helped me was the organ grinder and I'm still the monkey!!
As others have said, just ask any of the locosters, they are all friendly. Gary helped me alot my first couple of seasons and I can recommend Matt
and Ivan from Procomp for help if you get stuck with anything.
I'm car no 63, there testing fri afternoon then racing sat and sun.

Conclusion!!
After so many people recommending Procomp, it seems silly not to trust them with the application, especially see as Matt u2u'd me what can only
be described as an essay, answering loads of my questions!!
Thanks for your advice, and I look forward to meeting you all.
