SIERRA Steering Rack
Why is the sierra steering rack not a frequent used rack?
I have a dimension between the joints of 750.81 mm is this right?
Thanks for your help.

The Sierra rack IS a commonly used rack. Certainly most MK Indys (amongst others) use this rack.
With regards to the dimensions between joints, what vehicle are you fitting it to? Obviously this will determine your rack length in order to negate
bump steer.

IIRC it is used by at least MK, as a shortened version. The body is made of aluminium unlike the escort/Cortina type which is steel so can be
difficult to weld. It is easier to fit though due to having only 2 bolts rather than other having 4 plus clamps and rubber mounts. Ideally the joints
you speak of should be inline with the inner upper and lower wishbone bolts when the wheels are pointing dead ahead. If done that way (you can raise
and lower the racks mounting position to achieve this) you will practically eliminate bump steer.

Thanks.
I am designing a Seven that use the dimensions of the book with the 4" wider option of McSorley.
Solve the bump steer will not be a problem, provide that I have the room to accommodate the lever at the upright.
The result can be a problem for the Ackerman but we can check and see if we are in shape.
Do you know if the MK use a short version or just the standard one?
Thanks,

Thanks!
The sierra rack has a very practical fixing points [as you mention] it would be easy to change the height [shimming] to get the right bump steer.

Mk use a shortened one, they will happily sell you it.

Thanks!
I hope that some one can tell the distance between the pivot [ball-joints] points.

Just to clarify, the rack MK provide is a standard Sierra rack which is cut down to suit their chassis. If you think it may be suitable but
can't get the dimensions before, I can measure the length for you this evening?

Wait...
Isn't the rack mostly used the ESCORT MKII rack???
Which accepts the sierra downlink....
The above comments are always meant to be from the above persons perspective.

Hi TKS,
In principle every rack can be used as long it fits the design.
The Book design is based on the Escort rack but as you can read here, the MK Indy use the Sierra cut to suit.
