WARNING - BAD LANGUAGE ABOUT SORN - READ
** Edited to remove rude words cause I want to **
Folks,
To say i'm **annoyed** with our **blooming** gov. is putting it mildly.
I've had my donor car parked on my drive for two years. Its been sorn'd for two years. Its never moved yet .....
It seems I didn't fill in a SORN form last August. Why, cause no one reminded me and I forgot. I haven't done anything malicious, nothing
dangerous, I wasn't caught driving anywhere (cause i don't drive it, in fact it moves at most 10 feet up / down the drive when i need
space).
Seems I'm now in the legal process. If i admit guilt now I can pay 25 quid, if i don't pay in a few days its up to 45 quid. If i'm
still late paying its court and up to a 1000 quid fine
HOW COME I GET THIS RUBBISH WHEN 1 MILLION + PEOPLE (*) ARE DRIVING WITHOUT INSURANCE / TAX.
(*) Gov. figure.
I'd like to request that everyone with a donor car gets a handful of SORNS and fills them in, sends them to the DVLA. Lets annoy & overwork
the gits. In fact, every time you're in town fill a few more in, just to make sure they know you still have the car on your drive.
ARRRGGGHHHHH.

Its because the government see the motorist as a great big money supply, they make it as awkward as possible to stick to the legislation if you try,
if you dont try, its too much bother to catch you
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

I sold a car a couple of years ago with a months tax left on it and sent the log book in all legit. Last year I got a parking ticket through the post
for the same car dated from a month after I sold it saying that I should pay within a week or the fine would increase to some ridiculous figure. I
phoned the Derby authority who had issued the fine and told them it was not in my possession at the time and I haven't heard any more from them,
but if they got my name from the DVLA why didn't I get SORN or license reminders for the vehicle? They are not infallible so query anything they
send you, don't just pay up.
yours, Pete.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I rung them today to ask why i hadnt had a tax reminder or sorn form for my MGB that has been standing in my back garden for the last 4 years.
Was told that they dont always send them out due to system errors etc.The guy is going to put one in the post to me now but wonder if it will have a
fine attached?.
I also found a log book for a mk3 escort i scrapped 3 years ago and have never had a reminder for that either, told them i had just been tidying my
car paperwork and was advised to just fill it in as scrapped and send it to them, not sure if I should however or just tell them i sent it 3 years ago
and they must have lost it.
Also enquired about my mk1 escort donor vin and found it has not been taxed since 1992 so no sorn needed as before 1998 when sorn came in.
It seems that they are now doing everything possible to design new stealth taxes aimed at motorists in particular, but have also lost out on child tax
allowance etc in the last year. Now traffic wardens are getting the right to slap fixed penalties on cars and schol headmasters the right to tax
parents £100 for the pleasure of taking kids out of school for a week.
The only good news so far is that Northants police canot find anywhere that fits the new regulations governing speed camera positions so will not put
up any new ones this year.
Paul.

paying 100 quid to get yer kids out od school is still a bargain cos peak time hols are expensive and its chicken feed compared to the savings that
can be made.
Wonder if northants will put speed limits down on the cams they have....
the laser vans seem to be rarer.
im bound to get nicked soon as I have a nice clean license now........

don't get me started on speeding - i've always had a clean license until the other week.
Driving along, think to myself, "oh, going a bit quick, better slow down" and guess what..... flash flash. Miffed cause i was actually
aware and starting to do something about it + i honestly believe if a police man had seen me he would have cautioned me (11:30pm, straight road, about
to come into a lit area & duel carriageway, no houses, open fields!)
As I said in the pub tonight, at the end of the day i was breaking the law, hence have to accept the penalty.
Oh, and the camera is partially covered by a speed camera sign - against guidelines....

for my sanity and confusion, i registered the v5 of my donor in my name and address, but have never had a reminder of any sort in the post and as far
as i remember haven't declared it as sorn. am i going to get a non appealable £80 fine in the post?
cheers,
Ned.
ps if i am liable to a fine perhaps chrisw should put a warning on the front page as this could apply to lots of locosters.
beware, I've got yellow skin

I would say yes Ned.
get on to em and express concern that you never had a response from them that you declared your donor scrapped. That should be a get out.
keep V5 and send back a copy declaring it scrapped. Thats all you need - I just havnt got around to bothering...

there seems to be a lot of new measures to extract money from drivers these days, part of a bigger plan me thinks,if you/everyone contested
fines, parking tickets, speeding tickets the courts would go into melt down, they know this and normally wont persue you if you fight it,ive had loads of
parking tickets, contest every one and never paid a fine, only once did it look like going to court tho

I was sort of expecting a little SORN certificate or something but I think they just register it in the system and that's that.
I was fairly on the ball and tried to declare SORN for our Sierra before the V5 had been processed and I got a letter back saying I wasn't the
registered owner so couldn't SORN it, so they do get the declarations and do stuff with them.
I guess I should register it as scrapped now...

Jeez, what a lot of frigging hassle....
Glad I jumped ship when I did...
Although, to be honest. I actually wish we had something similar to SVA....
(did I really say that?..)

when they get it working properly, sorn will be like a tax disc, where you have to declare it every year or get a disc. when they're on the
ball, you will be fined if you ignore the reminder, by either not taxing it or declaring SORN.
'lost in the post' should work wonders though...

classic car club advice is to go to the post office as you get a receipt. The lost in the post one is going to get a bit tedious in the next few
months for the DVLA if people are treated like me!!!!
Then again why can the post post something to me normally but suggest i post it registered post?????

not quite true, they send the second copy recorded delivery. There is a whole defence based around not signing for the recorded delivery document.
Hence you never get it, hence they can't prosecute you. I'm sure this will fall down when a very bored Pc Plod turns up at your door to
deliver the document.
Their is a belief that the speeding ticket people are after easy money. If you cause them hassle they get bored and leave you alone. Can't see
it myself!

its not the money that annoys me as much as the principle of some headmaster playing policeman and judge all in one, the same goes for the new traffic
warden powers, im convinced that it will go to there heads .
The camera vans are still about , nearly got caught a couple of weeks ago by one on the polwell lane flyover. I was doing a steady 90 when a lorry
pulled out and i had to slow down ,then noticed it on the bridge so was gratefull to the lorry driver for a change.

I sent my SORN off to the powers that be by registered post, you know the type that needs a sig the other end.
They deffinatley got it,but 18 months later they sent me fine for not declaring from august 03.
I wasnt aware you had to do this anually and had no reminder, the SORN sheet has no info on how long SORN lasts.
Since the body and original chassis has gone to the breakers in the sky i wrote back saying it was scrapped pre aug 03,which is very much true.
It seems a whole lot easier to go for Q plate and have no orignal donor log book.

I usually driver OVER the polwell lane flyover - not under - its 2 mins from me.
Anyone hear about the new 100 quid fine if you park more than 50cm from the kerb - was mentioned on radio 5 live.
re tickets.
The rule is you have to get it in 14 days. In practice its more lax. The idea is you need 14 days to remeber it for your defence - thats why a copper
always tells you that you will be reported - its so you can record details for your defence.
If you have a company car its different.
Essentially, they send the document to the lease company. They send it back to the plod with address of your company. they then send it to your
company, who then get around to giving it to you.
this can take a month or more.
however, sendign the form to my lease co in carlisle counts as me being served with it in Northants
how f&ked up is that?
