Hi Guys,

Ran into another problem today.....

My mushrooms don`t fit (slightly loose) even when the pinch bolt is fully done up..... now I`m sure this is my own doing as I`m using Granada Front hubs (as it works with my Merc alloys and discs etc)....

Can you get larger versions for the Grandada hub?.....it never crossed my mind that they would be different....or should I trim the strut pinch slot so it can get a grip.... this seems the quickest solution as its not far off?

You will snap the casting if you just do them upo a bit more.

You need bigger ones.

That did cross my mind, I can get them made by a friendly turner I know, or maybe sleeve the orginals..... do you know if you can buy bigger off the shelf?

That's an interesting problem, shaving the pinch bolt face is a solution as long as it is just a millimetre or 3 and not lots. Another solution would be to find some steel tube to go over the mushroom, enough to take up the slack
Weld it on or bolt through upright spacer and mushroom

I say play safe and have some machined.

I'm sure a good solution can be engineered using the parts you have, but the only way you'll find the fault will inevitably be on the road (and if you're lucky, you'll be going slow and not flat out round a corner at the time).

Doubly so when you consider the engine you're packing and the power/torque it puts out

Lots of possible solutions each with their pros and cons.... sleeving sounds a quick and safe solution (assuming a suitable sleeve can be found).......I think I need a measure up

I'd go with making new bigger mushrooms personaly, safer than the steel shim working its way out of the clamp.

can you get a part from a cobra supplier? Don't some of those use Granada hubs?

Talon Motorsport (finds him on the Haynes Forum) make their own mushrooms for Sierras, with the offset, so if you had the dimensions you could contact them and I'm sure they would knock you up a couple with larger OD (as long as the material they start with is big enough)

I had the same problem with my 4x4 front uprights. MK made me a custom pair of mushrooms, if I recall, for the same price as standard ones.

And don't forget that if you haven't already tried to fettle the mushrooms you have, someone on here might want them and you'll recoup some of the money back.

I had a similar quandary when I built up my Luego. I was going to use all the Granada running gear, then I found that the mushrooms didn't fit. I thought about shimming etc, but also considered that the Granada upright is also TALLER than the Sierra upright and fitting this on the wishbones designed for Sierra uprights would also affect the geometry. So I ellected to go for the Sierra uprights and thought about fitting the Granada spindles in the Sierra hubs. That was also a NO-GO option so I had to use the Sierra hubs and spindles, but this would mean that I had 4 stud fronts with 5 stud rears. Didn't fancy that so looked at the rears and found that it was a simple operation to swap the Granada 5 stud rear drive flanges for the later Granada/Scorpio 4 stud drive flanges (these have the same PCD as Sierra) with no further complications. So if Henry Ford thought it was ok to run a large car on 4 stud wheels, who am I to argue.

Ahhhh I see, at least I`m not alone on this then.....I`m surprised that an off the shelf solution doesn`t exist, esp for the 4x4 hubs, which I suspect are the same as the granada.

I`m not fussed regarding number of studs (4 or 5), the reason I use Granada 5 stud is that it all matches up with my merc gear 5 x 112 pcd.

I`ve made contact with Talon Motorsport who are happy to help turn some bigger mushrooms for me

Hi been reading this post with intrest ...i am intending in using my granada uprights too ...did you manage the steering column and rack from the granada ??

No I'm using an escort rack. I wouldn't imagine there wouldn't be much (if any) difference in length to that of the Sierra rack, that would stop you from using a granny rack..... If you have one try it on, if not just buy a Sierra one.... Assuming you kit uses sierras as donors ?

Could be a while yet mate only picked up the donor today ...somebody posted i would not be able to use the uprights due to geometry issues or the column and rack either ...was starting to wonder....at least i have a useable engine and box...cheers for reply !!
