Windscreens....again!
donut - 20/1/04 at 07:52 AM

Have looked at the archive and found just a couple of threads about full windscreens that fit the Indy.

Has anyone successfully put one on? if so which ones fit. Looks like Wide bodied Westfields & Caterhams fit as do the lolocost jobbies. Anyone got any other suggestions?

Westfield screen kits are £325 and can be found at http://www.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/parts/parts.asp?category=Electrical

Cheers

I am just at this moment fitting my own windscreen - and I recon it will cost less than 100 quid.

Im estimating about 70 quid for a screen cut from flat glass, which autosheild windscreens can apparently do.... or you can get a screen cut from a panda or land rover glass

At first, I tried to bend alu channel, ala book method. It just distorts. I went to a big b and q and bought 2 off 2 mtr lengths of mild steel channel. You can get the curves by making cuts in the steel with a grinder, so that it can concertina around the curve. About 10 cuts each curve. You can then weld the joints and grind em down, finishing with a flap wheel and emery.

I used a bit of mdf as a template for the screen.

I'm no good at making things like that so i want to buy an off the shelf item if there is one. I like the Westfield one as it's black and has the mirrors neatly attached to the side BUT at £325 it's SOOOOOO expensive!

Go for the Lolocost one, it does fit even though it is slightly too wide and for £80ish it saves loads of hassle. Fitting a screen does make driving a lot better, and come track days it unbolts in 10 mins if need be. I'm looking at making a "finishing" trim to bridge the slight gaps at the screen ends/scuttle.

problem with buying that is they stopped doing the glass cause they wanted a min order of 5,000 screens or something stupid, buy the frame which they will post and get glass cut to fit!
