Quite fancy making my own aluminium side panels for my Indy.

Has anyone else done this?

Any cutting patterns out there?

not sure how much use it'll be to you, but there's a side on cad drawing of the indy with measurements. however. it may not be perfect, hopefully pretty close, but not sure.

surely it would be easy enough to align the top bit correctly then the presentation is not so important on the bottom?

Not saying you should make a meal of the bottom but if its not 100% bob on it wont be seen.

Sorry to hi jack the thread but do you think its possible to form the ally side panels then remove for spraying then refit without flexing them too much and cracking the paint? (cant be arsed with polishing aluminium again!)

it depends how good the paint is i expect, my worry would be that it might chip/crack under any flexing or if you're riveting, that might do it.

my plan is to form all the panels, drill pilot holes where needed, then get them anodised and refit them

The only place it is likely to crack is on the vertical crease level with the corner of the scuttle as it flexes when being moved.

I guess i could make a frame with the same angle as chassis (where it kinks) and keep the panel attached to it when its being sprayed then remove it from it when its time to refit and hope for the best!

Where u getting it anodised and is it an expensive process?

yeah, give it a go, if all else fails you can fill in the cracks with hammerite

there's a few places reasonably local to me that do anodising, i've not bothered to get prices yet, but i'm assuming (hoping) a few hundred quid at most, but it's a matter of seeing once the panels are made
