wilwood calipers????
evo.rocks - 19/11/09 at 10:15 PM

i have just installed my wilwood calipers, front brakes only, which i baught off the guy who crashed his car on here.

I have just had a little run with them and the pedal is stiff and they dont lock up no matter how hard i press the pedal.

Is this normal, will they bed in???

I bled the brakes twice as i thaught that would be the problem but it didnt change anything???

have you got a balance bar? might need adjusting perhaps? or maybe needs a different size master cylinder? i guess the pistons in the calipers is a different size

master cylinder is just standard sierra one and it should work fine with the powerlite calipers.

I have the smart pads in the brakes at the minute.

Also the other thing is the brakes are quite tight now on the front wheels with the wilwoods, when the are on axle stands it takes quite a bit of force to spin the wheel, why is it doing this??

Not enough clearence between the pad and the rotor, check fluid level, if too high it will prevent caliper pistons backing off, try pushing the pistons back into the caliper.

Do you have vented or solid discs?

Vented take ages to heat up on the road and are overkill for such a light car unless you are regularly tracking it.

I had the same issue with mine and the Wilwwod pads are shite.

I was going to try Pagid Blues, they came well recommended by a few people.

Heat the pads for a few miles, then try it 1144 need a little heating as they're a mild competition pad.

i have the standard non vented discs.

I will run the car for a few miles and push the pistons back and see how i get on with that..

I have a similar issue on brand new setup. Ive tried to lock the wheels where safe using quite some pressure and yes the car slows down but not exactly aggressive as i would have imagined. I do have a bias bar and i will adjust this first but like many have said i think its down to the pads.

evo.rocks - 20/11/09 at 02:50 PM

wot pads can i get then that will be good enough for an aggressive stop.

I have heard the mintex are very good but i dont fancy them because they squeel, i want a quiet pair if anybody knows of any?
