Apologies in advance for the strange questions.
But I was under the impression that the MK used Sierra track rod ends, however the set on my car do not look like any I have seen for the sierra.
The set I have look more like the escort/cortina/granada ones. Does it make any difference?
It does make a difference...some have a different taper size on the shaft, and also I thine the thread size may be different....so you do need the
right ones.....
My Westfield uses Cortina ones!.
Here's all I knew about RWD ford track-rod ends:
TRE (Track Rod Ends)
There are two different tapers and two different threads
+ Escort MkII Escort are M14 with the metric (large) taper. (this also include granadas to 1987, Cortinas MkIII and Mk V to 1982). FT722 , QR1834
+ Capri MkI, MkII, MkIII all up to September 1987, also some Escort Mk I and other fords (Fiesta up to 1993, Orion and Escort MkIII and MkIV, to
1990). are imperial thread and imperial (small) taper. Part number; Ford 6128814 & 5021410. Direct Part Number DR2377, AMR1205
+ MkII RS2000 uses MkII Escort rack and Capri uprights and so uses a hybrid TRE (M14 thread, but small taper). These are also known as “green” TRE,
as they are (you guessed it) Green (at least the For original one, this doesn’t apply to the equivalent pattern parts!). AMR4118. 1564468. AM260
Matt
You may have a different manufactured TRE, such as a Delphi or QD.
I would say 99.9% they are different tapers.
cheers Gents..thanks for the replies..

rs2000 tre's fit the sierra hub fine i would guess thats what you have.
sierra ones have a bend in them the rs2000 ones are straight.
rs2000 ones look like this

hi, sierra ones are offset so are some late model escorts and i beleive cossie escort too.
cortina mk1,2,3,4 escort ones are straight
also threads changed from unf to metric so you need the later ones to suit a mk2 escort racks m14 track rods

ashg,
thanks for the picture. As my current TRE's do not have a bend in them, I think that they must be the RS2000 version.
Thanks for all the help
cheers

sorry to hijack.
just got some new TRE's rs2000 ones and the part no. fits in with what matt says above.
how far into the steering arm taper should they go?
they only seem to go just over half way.haven't bolted them up though. the old ones went about 3/4 of the way in.
how much bigger are the standard escort ones?
cheers
