Has anybody used the eaton m45 to supercharge a 1000cc bec? Thinking of trying any info welcome.
No but I've got a M45 mini blower and a ST1100 and they're soon going to be close friends
Isn't the blower about the same size as a bike engine??
Not a ST1100. Flipping huge engine
I think it makes good sense (fitting a M45 to a bike engine). Good high end BHP with good low down grunt so if a CECer ever borrows it they don't
look like a complete arse stalling all the time Seriously though, it's the best of both.... (or that's what I hope).
For the record my plan is
1) ST1100 with decompression plate to 9.5:1
2) Drive the blower from an additional pulley attached to the front crank pulley
3) M45 at 8-9 psi above atmospheric
4) Nice big(ish) air/air intercooler
5) Emerald ECU with switchable maps for RON95/98
6) Blow through throttle body off an RS Escort (takes boost nicely and has a 8mm D spindle same as Rover throttle pot- just needs an adaptor plate
which I've made).
7) Central plenum in the V of the ST1100 V4
The only complicated is unless I wanted to run the blower backwards (which might cause problems) I have to put the blower facing away from the engine
(IE I can't cradle it in the V of the V4). But then I wouldn't want to put the blower in the V of the engine because I wouldn't have
space for the pipes to / from the cooler..
ps might be worth putting this in the BEC section. Fozzie where art though?
Ever considered using the m45 that has the electromagnetic clutch? (like the Air con pumps), might make life more bearable to be able to turn it off
I was after one for my mx6 but a normal one came up at the right price but I do wish I'd waited, the noise is reeeeally annoying on long trips
(very cool while blatting around though )

thanks for the feed back, is there no 1000cc supercharged owners out there?
I don't know any supercharged bike engines in cars out there.
The problem with superchargers on bikes is that there are no exposed pulleys that you can take the drive off. The crankshaft (for example) is
completely enclosed and in the oily bit of the engine.
So, to supercharge you need to add something to the end of the crankshaft (or some other appropriate drive) which is quite difficult. Then have that
come through one of the covers with an appropriate oil seal. Basically its much more challenging than for a car engine.
If you go turbo charged then these problems disappear.
If you want to see pictures of superchargers on bike engines, then there are a few on the http://oldskoolsuzuki.info/ in the forced induction
section.

There is a chap with a s/c R1 Striker sprint car that races in a welsh chapionship.
Supercharged ZZR1100 (with LPG)
Hi
Plenty of bikes being supercharged now if you know where to look.
you need to knock on the door of Richard @ TTS-Performance
Supercharger linky thing
I have an R1 supercharged engine in my Caterham.Used the rotrex instead of Roots type because of difficulty in gearing to suit the wide rev range of the bike engine.U2U if you would like some pictures.swalf3
