has anyone fitted a bike engine and used the bikes original radiator and if so did the engine keep its cool?
Nope used MK supplied escort radiator- comes with correct size fittings for the job.
Been stuck in traffic for 25 mins on a scorchio day without any problem at all- with cooling fan running of course.
ive heard about the various rads available (Micra,Polo etc) but thought the fireblade rad would be perfect as it has the correct air bleed tube and siphon tube connectors
I've heard of only a few using the origianl bike rad. though IMHO if you want to dead sure - use a small car rad instead. We used a Micra - marvellous but a polo seem's good too...
hi ,i used the bike rad with the R1 engine. on the open roads the temp was around 75-85 but come to a set of traffic lights or drive through a town and it would soon get to 100,not a problem but im going to use a car rad on my next build
I too used the R1 rad for My Indy R1. Works absolutley fine, temps around 80C normally, even when I thrash it on a trackday its never been over 95
(oil gets to 105 though..)
Only time it may overheat is when you are at standstill, in this case you just want the rad fan to cut in properly or wire it to a manual switch, this
is what I do.
You need to make sure its well mounted at the front of the nosecone and blanking off the area to the side of the rad will improve air flow through it.
Another plus point is that the original bike rad has all the right connections ready for you :-)
Cheers
Paul
My concern with the car rad is where do the air bleed tube and siphon tube connect to from the fireblade engine.
Ive sourced the correct rad and fan from a fireblade to use, I even have the reserve tank from the bike to make sure it all connects up the same as
the bike but i want to be sure the bike rad is efficient enough when used in a BEC
On a 'blade BEC it's a sealed system. The upper hose goes to the upper radiator. The lower goes to the lower rad. The bleed syphon goes to
the expansion tank. A fill tube joins via a t-piece to the (generally) lower tube. Done.
You may be able to pick it out from our photies on the website.
i had trouble with the upload earlier. im wondering myself what rad to use with the zx9 lump in the garage, wadders has given me a diagram but i just want a rad that uses the same size pipes to make it easy. gonna have to do some research i guess!
Snap! no prizes for guessing where i got the design for my cooling system........
Is that your drawing Snoop or is it mine?
