Well Ive read and posted various posts about engine choices and at present am no surer than I was to start with. I need to decide very shortly which way to go. I dont want a BEC and am swinging towards a Zetec BUT if I go EFI then is the MK's loom set up for it and what about the ECU. Mechanically I am very good but I dont want to have a quagmire of issues trying to install and start my engine. SO.... my question is: for a relatively good mechy fitter with a tiny amount of electric/electronic knowledge which is the easiest most cost effective way of putting a fuel injected engine in my MK? Also is there any major weight or BHP difference between the 1800 and 2 litre?
Not a lot in the weight or even the power if you fit the 2.0 cams. It is down a touch on torque but thats no big deal in a 7.
There are loads of ways to fuel a zetec. It comes down to what you want from it and how deep your pockets are. I havnt got an mk loom but I would
think the only provision for the engine managment is a switched live to power your choice of ecu.
Deep pockets and no skill needed would be jenveys and omex or simlar.
Mid way would be bike Tb's and megasquirt need much more skill but a quater of the price of above.
My choice is the standard ford ecu. Thats almost free but there is a lot of wiring work.
Dont worry, go zetec, been done loads of times so loads of advice available on here when/if dont go to plan.

The MK loom is a vicky green loom designed for a pinto. You can adapt it to fit a zetec (you would need to adapt the zetec loom too) or any other engine but imo it would be far easier to make your own. It's defininatly not plug and play. I'm sure the 1800 and 2 litre are virtually the same weight so i would go for the 2 litre.
