Rear Calipers
greggors84 - 30/6/04 at 06:18 PM

Is there any reason why the rear calipers cant be swapped round, so that the bleed nipple faces upwards, meaning the the caliper doesnt need removing for bleeding. Dax do it like this just wondered if there is any reason why i couldnt.

Thanks

Chris

I was wondering this and found a local garage that rally old MK2 RS 2000 escorts, they swap left for right but told me the only problems for us might be the route of handbrake cable.

I too found it difficult to bleed the calipers as they air lock in their new possition.

I took advice from zetec on this forum and now use the eezi bleed system,it works off tyre pressure. Its worked fine for me,i found the eezi bleed kit on ebay for around £20 delivered.

Done mine with nipples pointing up!
Works for me,No comments Bob!thank you!
Cable runs reasonably well.
A few of Martins early cars were done like this if I remember correctly,I think!

Ive had a look and it looks like the handbrake cable is long enough. If not i will get an easy bleed system as i was planning to anyway. Does this solve the problem of air locks?

Thanks

Depends if you have got hi or low mounted resovoir.
I wouldnt do it without an easibleed anyway especially if you are using old master cylinders,as constant pumping could knacker the seals.

britool do a bleed system that draws the fluid through by suction on the bleed nipple of the caliper ( think 25 quidish )
much better than the easybleed system and easier to fill resevoir etc

I'm also intending to mount them "niples up". But then again, I shouldn't be used as a reference.......

the vacuum type bleeder doesn't work... mark evans broke 2 of them whilst trying to bleed the brakes on a vw trike ( a bike is born)by nature when you crack the bleed nipple off its seat air will pass bown the threads so you will spend more time sucking air from the atmosphere and not from the system. an easibleed just forces fluid through the system so air can't get back in
