mk indy
mattg - 28/1/11 at 02:41 PM

Hi all new here

I'm thinking about doing an mk build but was wondering what it really costs ? I'm just after a ball park figure I know its depends how far you want to take things.

Is the I.v.a test that bad ?

Many Thanks Matt

I bought mine as a part built kit. Ended up costing me about £5500 to finish, thats less the IVA test cost.

As for the IVA test itself, I took mine expecting it to fail to the Nottingham test centre and I must say it was a pleasent experience.. Passed first time and the tester even allowed me about an hour to sort few bits out to get it through.

If your worried about the iva test then buy one complete that's registered & then change the bits you don't like/want to upgrade ect there are plenty of indys around to choose from, that's what I did :-)

Not a MK, but a lot of car for the money, with a small amount to sort out for the iva.

With the money you save doing this way, spend it on a different engine/turbo/supercharger etc...

Just randomly picked from the PH site....

non of that hair dryer **cough bike engine cough**** stuff here.

You'd have it built and IVA'd for under 4k I Reckon.

Our duratec'd Indy stands us at 5.5k and that includes swapping from pinto to 2.3DT. Bought for 3300 in a similar state to the one above.

Hi new here

Go for it, building is part of the fun and the IVA, despite the cost and stigma is perefectly doable.
IMHO The recent majority will have been built in the £5000-10000 bracket, depending on spec.

Your a bit sharp there mind, nothing wrong with the engine in that car , my point which I should of explained better, was if as a new owner he wants some "build" involvement, then restore/overhaul a current sva/iva car.

Change the engine, add a supercharger, restore the chassis, and so on....

Put his own mark on the car....

Ball park - £4k to £15k!! lol

The kit building stadium is pretty huge!

IIRC the MK deluxe kit is about 3k (£3.7k for the 'R' model)
However, despite being 'deluxe' it still doesnt include a hell of a lot, it is by no means a 'single donor kit'.
Ignoring donor parts (engine, gbox, brakes, prob, driveshafts etc), you stiill need to allow for seats, fuel tank, harnesses, lights, loom, dials etc etc)

This is where you get the big difference in ball parks, but cheap and second hand parts, you could try and sneak it in at 4k, but 6k is more likely, go for all new parts and maybe aim for a brand new registration, and youl be up over 10k.

In 2006 mine cost about £5k for a fairly basic build.

The little bits add up! Buying one already IVA'd isn't a bad idea.

built mine in 2005 and it stands me at just over £4500 which for the smiles it brings isn't a great deal of cash. i think in todays market though you'd need to budget around 6k unless you can beg borrow and/or steal a lot of the parts to build it.

well ive hit around 8K so far, and think im looking at around another 2K to finish.

mind i think you could probably build one for around 6K if you go for a standard indy, and a cheaper engine like a zetec.

I'm I right in thinking this would have to be stripped down and then re build by myself?
