A year on, and nearly there. (pics)

Well its been just over a year since i picked up my Indy R kit from MK, Everything is now working, and just a case of tidying bits up for IVA.

This is my first build, and am really happy with how its gone, Its had its ups and downs!, but seems to be coming to an end now. But its certainly taken over my life and wallet for the past year.

Im planning on hopefully taking it on a trackday early/mid december for a shakedown, and then IVA start of next year.

I just can't wait to be able to drive the beast on the road

The spec is as follows:

Indy R chassis with roll cage
2008 R1
Sierra LSD (3.62)
Electric reverse
Standard sierra brakes (should be good enough)
And all the usual.

And here are the pics:

Oh and the right hand indicator is bent, as i walked into it the other day, and broke the extender i made!, so i need to fix that.

But anyone got any tips/advise/critisisms Etc.

cheers

Have you got the EXUP valve still in place and have you done the breather mod on the motor? Without these, 4C8 motors are prone to go bang.

I did the breather mod last night, just need to plumb them into the catch tank.

As for the exup valve, I will do, when one pops upon ebay Etc.

that silencer looks a tad on the small side

you might need a gator over the handbrake

Noise will probably be an issue as the can looks too small. I take it the gigantic battery will accidentally fall off with the reverse after the IVA

Battery spoils the scuttle, not fancy a bike one to hide away? Otherwise looks very nice indeed

Looks a tidy build, but make sure you do that EXUP and i'd speak to Andy bates incase there is anything else you need to do to the engine, i know the 08 r1 tends to blow up...

as for the silencer,i did have a much bigger one (6x16), but it didn't really fit, and no room for the tail pipe.

The one fitted there is a 4x12, but is completely stuffed with acufill and has a DB killer fitted, its not too loud at low revs, but is rather loud at high revs, so will prob have to see what db its actually putting out, but im thinking will prob need to change it again.

I take it, if i can get a standard R1 can to fit, this will be quiet enough? Also does this have a build in cat?

Its the cat that seems to steal all the room!

That battery is only a tempory one (came out of the sierra), i will be getting a biggish bike one. and i do plan to keep the reverse.

Does anyone know if the exup from a 06 will fit the 08?

cheers

Is the indicator on the rear arch to satisfy IVA? Ive noticed that Caterham now put them on the outside edge of the front cycle wing!

adithorp - 3/11/11 at 03:18 PM

The late R1 exhaust will have cat in it but won't be good enough to meet the emmision limits of IVA as the bike requirements aren't as strict.

As an alternative to having the redundant EXUP valve you can always make up a widget to fool the ECU into thinking it's there. This thread covers it.

On the breather it's worth sticking a gauze in the pipe from the gearbox just to restrict oil flow up it. A piece of ally mesh rolled into a cigar shape and pushed into the pipe will do. It still lets the gas through.

Thanks, I will make that circuit then.

as for the silencer, if i keep the current cat, and use a 1200 bike silencer like this, should that get it below 100DB?
