A big thanks to MK - car is fixed!
skidmark - 8/11/11 at 04:22 PM

Some of you may remember that a while ago, I had a rear end shunt in my Indy and it was looking in a pretty sorry state..

Anyway, I finally persuaded the insurance company to agree to have it fixed at MK and after only a couple of weeks of them getting the go-ahead it's back home with me and all done!

Just wanted to say a big thanks to all the guys at MK who've been involved and who have put up with me over the last few weeks.

They've done a great job with the repairs and even been good enough to sort out a couple of things for me while they were at it and deliver it the 150 miles or so back home.

Now I can make use of what good days we have left this year before getting on with a few planned improvements over the winter ready for the sunshine in the new year!

Cheers
Chris

That would be the idea really, as if the guys who made the dammed thing in the first place couldnt repair it to a level where as you said "couldnt even tell it had been shunted" then they shouldnt have really began to try to repair the thing should they

And to the the OP congratulations your pride and joy is back on the mend.

Hector I dont think your statement really stands up, Ive seen BMS Mercs VWs repaired by approved bodyshops and it was still apparent that they had ben in a shunt.

Just because a company is a manafacturer it doesnt mean they are able to repair the item this is why most have approved specialists.

The main thing is the car looks goos and Skidmark is happy PS Its an MK Indy not a Damned thing lol

the Fatal flaw in your statement is that supposedly "approved" bodyshops are NOT the manufacturers, in this case MK who should have the facilities to place the chassis in the jig that ALL MK chassis come out of, not some Shonky "approved" repair centre who is trying to punt out stuff as fast as possible for the least amount of cost. hence the difference. and hence why the "dammed thing" should be right.

And as long as the chassis is back to the dimensions same as when it came out of said jig in the first place, as its as component built car (as opposed to a production line built car) it should look good.

thanks for the replies. Turned out that most of the chassis was ok, just the section the fuel tank sits on needed cutting out and replacing plus some new wishbones. Main parts costs were glassfibre panels, fuel tank, radiator, wheels etc. I think the insurance payout was big - must have been just below write-off limit! I'll do some pics at the weekend. Cheers.

Cheers Danny, thanks for all your help. I'll keep an eye out for MK trackdays - hope to get some good use out of the car next year!

I'm glad it didn't go up in flames given the position of the fuel tank - a rear end shunt has always worried me given not many people know how well MK's can stop!
