I was talking with a friend this afternoon about the stiffness of the MK Indy chassis. He told me it's better to put an aluminum panel under the
GRP sidepanels and pop this all too the chassis. The same for the back panell behind the seats. He did it with his Indy and he said Westfield is
always doing this. But im building an Indy for the road and im thinking do i need that in my car. How many guys off you have aluminum sidepanels under
there GRP panels ?

if i did aluiminium panels i would drop the fibreglass altogether. or use steel fully welded in. no need for both unless you are bothered about
aesthetics...
We used a considerable amount of ali to support boltings and rivets through the GRP as a load spreader. It helps to stop the GRP spangling in the
event of a slight knock, due to the displacement of load.
Other than that - hardly any!
Ally sides are bound to stiffen the chassis,Ive done my sides in ally anyway and I still like the look of it.
This is also the reason I had a steel floor which I fully welded to increase torsional rigidity as well,the Aussie lads do all these tricks to enable
them to pass their stiffness tests.

i used carbonfibre panels to stiffen the chassis ( bonded+riveted to the outsides of the chassis). BTW it looks cool too
( more expensive though)
after this i will mount the GRP-sides with countersunk rivets and rivnuts.

Hmmm, still don't know what to do.
I have the plastic interior panelset from MK. Maybe it helps just a litle to stiffen the chassis. And it looks better then Alu sides on the inside
plus keeps the noise down. I will only use the car on the road and maybe one time in a year on the track. So for that reason the stiffness
doesn't make sence. Hmmmm...
