Reverse motor protection
-matt - 1/10/12 at 11:30 AM

Basically my Iva inspecter wants me to make some protection/ a ramp over the reverse motor, due to low clearance. Just wondering what other people have done here. Or had any problems with clearance?

Thanks

Mine, and im sure most others have mounted above the prop, so there will never be clearance issues. How come you mounted yours like it is?

Thats where the mounting brackets were that Mk weld to the chassis.

Mines the same. I made this which is bolted and silicon sealed to cover it all up.

You need a drain hole.

Thanks dave, I was thinking of something similar, Although i was thinking of welding some sides on as well for extra strength.

What thickness of steel is that? Ive got loads of 2mm steel, so was thinking of doubling that up to 4MM, which should hopefully be strong enough. (looks like yours is double skinned?)

Did you do anything with the terminals?

It's actually about 3mm aluminium single wall. I would have thought 2mm steel would be more than thick enough. The terminals are covered with battery terminal covers and it has a thick bit of rubber between the cover and terminal just incase it did get dented. The live cable is also fused.

I made a mould and made one from GRP, (as usual I did it the hard way, can't help myself)
