Handbrake cable resting on rear uprights. Is this right?
Sloan85 - 29/4/13 at 09:55 PM

Just wondering where the rear handbrake cables should sit in relation to the rear uprights. Currently the cable is positioned as can be seen in the picture below. Is this right? It's very close to the wheel at the minute and will probably wear the powdercoating away on the top of the upright.

Slide a bit of rubber tubing over it, that's what manufacturers do.

Completly different car, I know, but mine are horizontal and go under the lower wishbone.

Have you got it on the right side?

Mr IVA won't like that

Again, completely different car but these are my Sierra calipers on the nearside rear, viewed from underneath. Putting them on this way brings the cable out horizontally along the bottom of the wishbone and puts the bleed nipple at the top.

How did you solve this problem?

I haven't yet! Any other suggestions??

Cheers

Just make up a little bracket to hold the handbrake cable, bolt it to the upright using that top wishbone mount. Bit of rubber around cable and it'll look like its supposed to be there.

my iva bloke picked up on my handbrake cable rubbing.. i got some cable ties and small rubber tube and looped the cable through it with the hose to my wishbones for my retest and he said that its looks good and secure..

so he passed it...

Here's how it looks on mine.
The cable is from a Sierra.

Thanks for the reply. I did manage get this sorted in the end. I bent the cables to the side and fixed them to the diagonal bracing at the top of the shock absorber with rubber lines p clips. Once clipped it can't slide and so will never rub against the wheel.
