does anyone have any photos of their cycle wing brackets before the cycle wings are fitted?

I put one of the cycle wing brackets in position tonight to try and work out exactly where I should be bending them but want to see what others have done before I bend them and get it wrong.

What distance should I have between the tyre and cycle wing bracket?

I bent mine over a two by four, but it depends on the amount of clearance you are looking for.

I haven't done mine but i've heard people using 1" spacer on the tyre.

2" would make it easier to remove the tyre.

This is how I did mine. The distance between tyre and rim will be dependant on the size of your tyres in relation to the radius of the wings, just pack them off until you're happy with how they look. Take the wings off, fit the brackets and use the packers to mark the bend line on them. Try to avoid having the wings too close to the tyre as anything picked up by your tyres will have to find its way through the gap one way or another. I think mine ended up nearly 2 inches from the wheel.

I bent the brackets like this.

1 Decide on clearance (wing to tyre) using bits of wood on top of the tyre and placing the wing on the wood, remember you will need to remove the wheel with the cycle wing fitted, so allow for that.
2 Find something with the same thickness as your required clearance, I used a hammer handle.
3 Used ratchet strap to hold hammer handle (1.5" dia) firmly onto corner of tyre.
4 Bent the strip over the handle till it was parallel with tyre surface.
5 Tigerseal to bond wing to bracket.

All done the night before SVA!

Mine were made, as per the above, but only 10mm clearance, so very tight to the tyre,
Ive never had any problems, and the wheel comes off easily

I put my brackets in place and bolted them in sat a felt pen on top of the wheel and rotated it this marked a line on the flat bar at the angle I needed to bend at.

I then drew a line parallel to that one 20mm further up the bar (away from wheel center.

I bent my brackets around a piece of unistrut cos it had a nice rolled 90 degree corner on it. Job done

Cycle wing sits about 25mm over tyre due to material thickness, then did same on other side.
