wheel dilema
mad-butcher - 13/12/04 at 06:25 PM

i've got 195 15 tsw razors on my mk pinto fit a treat they are 6j's
my son works for a major motor accessory firm doing tyre and wheel deals problem to cut costs the major wheel manufacturers are cutting back on the number of offsets and wheel widths .... they are now only supplying 6.5 j's
I can have a set of dezent type f at an amazing price
dilema
you will see by photo that a 6.5 j 38 offset ford fitment sticks out further at the outside edge.... the razors just fit in the arch.... this is the only offset they now do for fords
the ford focus is 6.5j with 45 offset which will fit nicely in the arch but the back edge will be running tight to the rear shock...
but i do have the option to fit a 3mm spacer.....
the problem is the wheel suppliers say they will fit a standard car as there is enough clearance but are wary to supply for a kit car as there is no tuv approval for kitcars
any-one any ideas Rescued attachment Dilema.jpg

Sorry, I can't help, but thats the best thing I've ever seen to describe wheel offsets etc! Thanks, I learned something today!

Are you 100% the Ford Focus wheels are 6.5J, when I was looking they were all 6J as are my Fiesta zetec ones. Most aftermarket tend to be 6.5J. I'm sure you are right but might be worth checking. I would have thought the Focus wheels would be fine without a spacer. My Fiesta wheels are 6J with 52 offset so would in theory be closer to the car centre than even a 6.5J with 45 offset by 1mm (i think I'm correct).

Hi ,I have 15x6.5" razors with 35j offset and they fit fine.
I think you have the offset theory the wrong way round!
The smaller the offset figure then the further out the wheel is placed.
The larger the offset figure the further inboard the whell sits.
With a 6.5" rim you need between 35(the furthest out) down to 42-50j (the furthest in without looking lost)

By the way I meant mad butcher was wrong not zetec!
From your drawings mad butcher you have got the offset the wrong way.
It's confusing I know as you would think it would work the other way .
All the best.

Oh shhhhh!
Sorry,I read oyur description and it didn't read right ,but after looking at the drawing again you are right!
SORRY!
Anyway my 6.5" 35J's fit fine.
I'm off to bed, worked a 13 hour day today thats my only excuse!
Yours apologetically DEAN.....

my 6j razors fit fine..the problem is the budget wheel and tyre suppliers to motorworld and halfords etc are dropping 6j's in favour of 6.5 and limiting the number of offsets avaliable ie no more 35 offset for fords it's 38 take it or leave it
tony
thanks for the input guys
