Does anyone know of another newer car that has similar rear calipers to the sierra.
A mates dad works at TRW si can very very cheap calipers but they have to be off a fairly new car. My mate got some for a MK4 golf recently so the car
doesnt have to be brand new.
The handbrake mech on one of my calipers has broken, it just turns without pushing the cylinder out. Instead of paying a stupid amount for a recon
sierra one, i wondered if i could get some cheap ones off my mate and fit them to my MK hubs or maybe fit them to the sierra calipers.
What about MK4 or MK5 escort.

I wanted to know the same thing, I want to fit 13" wheels but with Sierra rear disc setup the smallest wheels need to be 14".
I don't fancy changing to rear drums as I would need to change nearly everything from the diff output shafts out.
Will let you know if i find anything. Not sure if they will be smaller than the sierra ones, ive got 14s on mine so aslong as they arnt too much
bigger than the sierra ones im happy!
I think i might go to halfords and get a pair of focus calipers then take them back, if they ill get them off my mate, if not ill try another set!
Unless anyone knows where i can get the dimensions of different carriers and the offsets of the related discs, as the carriers need to fit in the
original bolt holes and the disc needs to fit on them too.
Tried the MK4 golf carriers on today and they fitted! The offset is just right too, the only problem is, the disc doesnt go into the slot on the
carrier much even though the golf has smaller diameter discs, they must mount the carriers nearer the centre. Anyway check the size of cossie rear
discs and they are 20mm bigger. Should be perfect. Ill get a pair of calipers off my mate and get the fitted and take some pics.

If I remember right the bearing carrier is also the casting the caliper mounts onto so it's hard to mount the caliper nearer the hub. I did see a caterham a few days ago using a Spitfire disc on the rear with the sierra rear caliper but I did not notice the uprisht being used. maybe someone else knows.
Ive got a wilwood inline brake bias adjuster so if the rear does out brake the front i will just screw it in a bit.
The only difference between the golf and the sierra rear brakes are the discs which are slightly bigger on the ford. So i shouldnt have any more
problems using the VW ones.
The main reason im doing it anyway is i can can get them very cheap. 2 calipers and the 2 discs for less than a single rear sierra caliper.
I was thinking about putting a disc between the propshaft and diff and having just one calliper( cable operated).
My landrover disco has a drum brake on the transmission. Anyone seen a similar set up.????this would alow me to use any callipers on the rear
brakes.
I have a siera lsd so it should stop both
wheels.. Or am I wrong? Kipper.
I think most landrovers use this set up, not sure why. My next project, a 3 door range rover, which sitting in my garden waiting some attention has
this set up, the lever is really small and you dont feel the tension in the cable, and if you pull it up when you are moving forward slight the whole
car rocks forward and backward, as you have the play in the rest of the transmission still.
Why would you want to put the handbrake on the prop? Most calipers have a handbrake mech on them, the biggest problem you would have is trying to make
non standard ones fit the ford hubs. Unless you mean putting fronts on the back, then you have the problem of the rear having the same braking power
as the front and a lot less weight.
With all the hassle of mounting a disc and caliper on the prob, it wouldnt be worth it.
Its an interesting idea though, have you got any ideas on how to do it?
