Mounted rad inside

Well my r1 radiator is finally mounted and all the pipes connected. We mounted the rad in the space between the front and the engine, and i have to say it really does look well. So much neater and makes fitting the nosecone far easier. And as for the airflow, it is right in line with the hole in the nose.

A guy is coming on monday to sort out all the electrics so will be firing it up then

Gonna go out now and finish off the brakes

Will get a video clip of the start up for you's

Hi Jay

Just cos its right in line with the nosecone, doesnt mean it will get as much flow! If you measured the airflow through the nose and into the engine bay I bet you it would be flowing a lot more air right up at the front of the nose, by the time you get back near the engine, half of the air will have dispersed out the bottom or around the engine bay somewhere, or may even be stalling by that stage so close to the engine, and not actually moving much at all.
Also you will be making the air around the engine hotter as any air that does go through the rad will flow straight onto the engine, so unless you've got a cold air feed to an airbox, it might detract from the performance too.
By all means give it a go as it may be OK, but if you want maximum cooling id say it needs to be directly in the airflow at the front of the nosecone and ideally with ducting around the nose so that all the air goes through the rad and not round it.

Why not just fit some shrowding to direct airflow. I'm looking at mounting my rad in a similar place.

Also don't forget that to get airflow through the rad you have to have somewhere for it to go afterwards.

If you fit ducting all the way up to the rad in front of the engine, wouldnt it be neater and easier to just plumb it in at the front and be done with it?

Yeah, i know ur prob right, wasnt tryin to say it was better than the front, just that it would still work. And it really does look pretty cool

Is it just me or are the panels slightly off? Maybe i was wrong in thinkin everything wud go together perfectly

just looking through the busa rush thread, that one has it's rad next to the engine, in the chassis with no ducting.

looks like it may be compulsory to make room for the intercooler in the nose, but it must still work pretty efficiently.

dunno in practice, but yes, it does look cool

Yes the panels need a bit of persuasion but a good result can be achieved

I'm with Chris on this one...

If you were an air molecule wouldn't you rather go around a radiator than through it - especially if there is an option.

I think moving it now rather than later would be the best option.

Jay,
Just to let you know the TSCC have put up their EVENTS CALENDER FOR 2005.
The first track day is Sun April the 3rd at Kirkistown.
Also, I've just sent in my membership for the year (£15) you can fill in the online form if you want.

Do you think you'll be ready for a shakedown by early April?

Also FYI Nutts Corner is no longer available to cars/bikes for testing as residents have complained so much.
You have to wonder at the mentality of someone who moves in next to a racetrack then complains about the noise....

lol, Shud be ready for track, believe it or not im still waitin on Bill! The other week he brought me a westfield tank and handbrake cables! The tank is about 2 inches too big for the chassis and the cables were so worn they wud never pass mot! He also gave me a set of orange discs....so badly rusted i dont think i can use them! so fingers crossed he will keep his word and deliver them on monday

if you're stuck for a tank just adapt a Jerry can. Cheap as chips!
