Westfield Type 9 mount

Any Indy builders tried to use a Westfield Type 9 G/Box mount in place of the Sierra item?

If so, ho did you mount it?

It's quite a bit narrower than the Sierra item, so I thought of making a plate/strap to bridge it out to the mounting plates on the Indy. However doing this will end up with the gearbox being mounted too high as the Westy mount is thicker than the Sierra one.

Any suggestions ???

Cheers

The way I did it, as a lot of people have is to bolt the westie mount to a plate and use spacers between the plate and the MK gearbox mounting plate to lower the gearbox to the desired position. I dropped mine 40mm beneath the mounting plate. Hope this help

After looking in Mark Allanson's archive I figured on doing the same

What is the advantage of using the westie one? I have used one and made a plate with a hole in it to mount it on and bridge the gap.

I didnt realise the original sierra one was any different. I just used the westie one as i got one cheap.

The original Sierra one is made of very soft rubber - similar in stiffness to a mature brie cheese.

The Westfield one is made of very stiff rubber - similar in stiffness to a mature cheddar cheese.

The Westie stops the gearbox wriggling about so much and potentially hitting the inside of the tranny tunnel.
