Indy exhaust mounting problem?
nick205 - 23/7/05 at 11:28 PM

Started thinking about the rear mounting for my Indy exhaust today, but I think I may have a problem...

As the pic shows, once assembled, the silencer doesn't sit parallel to the side of the car. This causes several issues...

1. Needs a very long/wide/big mounting bracket.

2. The end of the tail pipe sticks out beyond the outer edge of the rear wheel.

3. If I force it closer to the bpdy it is going to put a lot of stress on the rest of the pipework.

Is there something wrong here?

Looks a bit out to me. mine wasn't perfect either but it was closer to the bodywork than yours. If you have time it may be worth sending the bit between the can and manifold back to the maker and get them to bend it a little more. Not too much or it will hit the car.

I had similar problem with my system. I ended up taking the connecting piece to a friend of mine who altered it to suit. I had to have the link piece angled away from the car and then got a reverse angle welded onto the other end to create an S shape to the link pipe. This meant I could run it parallel to the car without it being too close to the bodywork.

The link pipe needs a tweek. Mac heated his up and used a scaffold pipe to push it round a small bit

Thanks to mangos advice i tweeked mine a bit too, although it was nowhere near as far out as nicks.

Be carefull when you finally mount the can,a few of us have snapped the mounting tab on the silencer maybe because is was too harder mount.
It needs to have a bit of movement

use a rubber 99p exhaust mount from halfords

Cheers for the replies guys, I thought it looked too far out.

MK supplied the exhaust system, so I'll speak to them first and see what they can do.

yes mine was out as well ,had to cut a bit off the the end of down pipe as it was too long plus tweak them round a bit to get the right clearance.

addison - 24/7/05 at 10:02 PM

just to clear things up, the exhaust in question is not manufactered by m.k. engineering, all though it was supplied by m.k. sportscars.( we at m.k. engineering only supply m.k. sportscars occasionaly with the odd motorbike engined exhaust) most of our exhaust systems are custom built and fitted to the car.

Will the link pipe fit the other way round, it doesn't look anywhere near right that way round.

The link pipe only goes one way female at front , male to rear.

I bought my Indy exhaust from MK Sportscars and i had same prob, turned out I'd been given wrong part. Exchanged it straight away and problem solved.

long time coming, but I ended up "adjusting" the centre section myself with a gas torck and some scaffold tube. Silencer now sits parallel and about 2" away from the body work.

might be just me but your zorst's on the wrong side!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Just for the record Martin at MK engineering custom built my exhaust and although costs a little more than the mk sportscars standard exhaust it does fit absolutely spot on following the lines of the side of the car like it should. Maybe someone ought to relay these critisisms to MK sportscars exhaust manufacturer, cos i wouldn't have thought it would take much to eradicate this problem at source before fitting!!
