Hello,
I now again about rims and tires.
The question is will 17 inch X 8 fit at the back of a indy. I realy whant some 235 X 40 tires at the back and they say i need a 8 inch rim.
I've it fit okay what kind of offset will i need then too get them inside the rear arch??
I don't whant too order it before i now that it wil fit.
Thanks Daniel
are you sure you really need such a huge wheel? the wheels will be more expensive, the tyres will be more expensive, you'll be more likely to
kerb them with such a low profile tyre, they'll be very skittish considering the weight of the car and will be pretty heavy as well.
A better option is normally a 15" tyre with say 195/50's on, cheaper, lighter and will make the car handle much better and your wallet
happier.
just my 2p.
Ned.
What Ned said.
Rolling resistance - weight - fit for purpose;
they really are unsuitable in that diameter and width. Wait 'til it rains - the pressure per cm2 will be so low you'll never get the power
down.

Hello,
I like te look of 17 inch so that is something i realy whant.
But the 235 is maybe too width??
What about 205 x 45 17 inch x 7 inch.
Will the offset be 45 ????
I've it's a mistake to go to 17 inch instead of 15 inch then that is my problem but you have warned me..
Thanks Daniel
Im running an Indy with 205 40 17s. Ive read all the arguments against 17s and they are true, but i like them all the same. Ive not had any probs with this size tyre.
Hello
I use 235/40/17s on the rear for posing. (I have 15" slicks for track use.)
I'd be suprised of my rims were 8" wide though - more likely 7.5". They are made by Wolfrace and are ET35 IIRC.
Car is an Indy BTW.

if you want 17x8s on the back, go for it. Just bear in mind the pros and cons, and be careful in adverse conditions As said, you can always have a different set for tracks or hard driving.
