Hiya,
I've got to the point where I am supposed to be installing the sierra fuel sender. Excuse the noddy questions
My tank has two holes where hoses can be attached. The one at the top by the fuel filler neck is a vent while the one on the opposite side at the
bottom is where the fuel is supposed to come out, right?
I have the complete sender unit from the sierra which includes the original pipes for the fuel and the vent.
I have had a search on the forum and seen people talk about rivnutting it to the tank. There doesn't seem to be enough room to do this though.
There is a rubber gasket with a small gap between it and the metal so I could just make a hole of exactly the right size (ie smaller than the gasket)
and then squeeze it in. There would be nothing else holding it in place which seems wrong.
I assume that I don't need the original vent and fuel holes so can block them up.
How have other people attached theirs?
Ta very much.
Monkey,
A couple of things...
Check the vent/return outlet next to the filler neck as it is not actually drilled through. It's a good idea to drill this through before you
get fuel in the tank (like I had to )
When fitting the Sierra fuel sender remember that the tank has an internal baffle next to the fuel outlet. I didn't realise this and ended up
with a hole which I had to plate over
I modified the Sierra sender unit by removing part of the mounting plate, then filing some round notches so I could rivet it into the tank. I used
gasket sealer to ensure it was sealed against the tank.
The original fuel outlet and return pipes can be blocked easily with some large self tappers.

Brilliant. Cheers mate. Just what I needed.
No problems - always happy to show people my mistakes
