Roll bar
macspeedy - 21/1/03 at 09:22 PM

How have people secured their roll bar to their chassis, as i have concerns as to what would be strong enough if the worst was to happen? I have rear stays with studs already in them.

I used 17mm headed bolts
and stick rubber caps on the heads
very stiff and looks good.

Where do you get these rubber caps from, I'll need them for the front wishbones as well, ta in advance.

Regarding fixings for roll bar, i went to my local karting track shop and purchased
some seat mounting bolts which are countersunk allen bolts and countersunk anodised ali washers( loads of coloured finishes to choose from) 4 for each mounting. I also using these for fixing front wings.

I doubt if Mr. SVA will pass those anodised AL bolts for anchoring your roll-over bar. They won't be anywhere strong enough.
Please don't use them for that!

The actual bolts are 10mm high tensile steel its only the washers that are aluminium. A friend had his MK sva passed last year using same bolts.

Hi, I've welded mine, much neater ,stronger and no worries about bolts .
Turn the mig right up though if you fix in this way, plenty of penetration is a must!
Yes I'm still talking about the roll bar!
