The Boneheads. I was with the scots dragoon guards, they went out last week for 6 months, but they aren't taking many tanks, mostly foot work . there not to happy about that.
Are you TA or reg.
Best of luck, look out for no.1

Chaz - 22/10/05 at 04:26 PM

I went out in Nov last year and got back end of April this year. Good time to get all your funding for your car though.

Have fun.

MkJoe - 22/10/05 at 04:40 PM

im a reg. check this out we have just converted from CR2 to CVRT ar a FR reg and now thay want us to go and train as warrior turret crews for iraq.
Its all mad

lewis635 - 22/10/05 at 05:37 PM

There is no denying that the british army is the best in the world but they train you to do one role then when you are needed the most they give you another role. many of the units going out there are inexperienced in the task required.
IMHO this is a result of the overstretch that the forces are under
What BG are you going with?

MkJoe - 22/10/05 at 08:55 PM

We think its 7th Armour BG but we are being kept in the dark with it all.
The BG Commander wants a reserve force of 14 warriors but that have no one to crew them so thay are looking at us the crew the turrets, but Land command want them to justifiey us going out there at the moment. i wouldnt be that botherd but i only came back from there last year there must be more than us that can do it im sure but the Army is full of to meany Yes people. thats who scots dg are with, the infantry unit is the highlanders. the boys in scots dg are great but watch out for the CO he is a nutter, there is such a shortage these days, what happened to the 1 tour every 18 months promise.

Syd Bridge - 23/10/05 at 05:29 PM

I realise the Iraqi's must know how competent/incompetent the British may be, but.....

Is this really the place to be putting such a conversation so openly??????

lewis635 - 23/10/05 at 07:41 PM

Sorry syd, the state of the british army is well documented at the moment. but as i said above the soldiers are still the most profesional in the world The point i was making is that troops train for years in their chosen trade but due to shortages they are required to fill other roles. I am sure that none of the information discussed on this site is of a sensitive nature, Should an iraq bomber spot a Royal signals soldier on foot patrols it is fairly obvious that Infantry tactics is not his forte. Having recently left the army i am fully aware of the difficulties that MKJoe will face and wish him all the best

MkJoe - 23/10/05 at 07:51 PM

Thanx Lewis635 for your support.
I think that no matter what job you do you should due to say your views. i joind the Army to protect the people of the Uk not some Iraqis that dont want us there at all.

lewis635 - 23/10/05 at 08:05 PM

Totally agree joe. also how can you expect your own troops to be treated fairly when your own government doesn't abide by the international laws. But thats another story. when do you leave? Just save all the money and get the car done when you return all my operational tours were an ideal time to save up. Two of my training cpl's were QRL Great lads.
