can someone explain to me if as I think on bike engines people are leaving the standard can on and keeping other aspects unmodified
WHY all the emission and noise db problems?
chris
I mean like at the sva etc
My carbed R1 passed the noise test at SVA with an R1 can plus a cat. The noise measured 100dB which is just inside the limit. This was measured at
7500 RPM which is 2/3 of the max power engine speed.
It failed on emissions with HC at 600ppm where the limit is 200 for 1995 or newer engines, a problem that I still haven't been able to sort out.
If I had fitted an older engine then the limit of 1200 ppm would mean that I sailed through.
The noise level for s.v.a, is tested at 2/3 max power engine speed, but if you put 8000 rpm on the application. This will only be tested at just under
5500 rpm, which can be the difference between pass or fail.

If you mean why do bike engines struggle with emissions at SVA even in standard form, then it is because new bikes don't have to pass the tougher
car emissions tests. Put the bike engine in a car and you have to pass car regs with an engine that was only designed to pass bike regs.

a ha!!!! cheers
So where have you all got your cats from for the SVA - do MK have one or does one of the owners have one we can borrow in exchange for beer tokens?
I'll be needing the use of one soon also where in the system does it go hopefully it doesnt require any major alterations
Cheers

paul i believe it goes before the can
as in a couple of inches before
Ah ok - so it just replaces the section with the angle in it? I take it these cats arent very big then
