Visited my local radiator stockist and manufacturer, very helpfull had every type looked at the escort rad that a lot of people have been using but just to pass on info the capri radiator is slightly taller has better mounting flanges and when fitted at a slight angle fits perfectly taking up nearly all the room in the nose cone and its designed to cool a pinto, result.

But is it not better to have a smaller radiator mounted upright?

It cost £70 inc vat, the angle is about 10 don't see any down side in that!

You'll need to get the filler neck cut off and plated up and use a expansion tank as you'd need to keep taking the nose off also probably be below the head not tried it yet but from what i have seen most cars have expansion bottles any way..
