how loud will my exhaust be?
john_p_b - 2/2/06 at 08:31 PM

i'm wanting to book up a trackday session in the very near future so i can really get a feel for this car once and for all, bit worried about the noise though as most tracks have a 105dB limit, i recorded 98.2dB at sva and i know it''s got a lot louder sinse then so doubt it'll pass track tests.

i'm using the mk supplied exhaust so is there anything i can do? are they repackable? is there another can i can replace it with that will save messing about?

cheers
john

It won't get past at Donington John ! I've been kicked off twice at 99dB however last weekend I managed a whole day without even being warned about the noise - the solution was to fill my wunoff repackable silencer with rockwool from wickes the night before. Probably won't last long but I'll do the same again the night before the next trackday. Cheap too think I have enough rockwool to refill my silencer about 10-15 times !.

Look for a repackable one on ebay then off to the local DIY emporium to refill it.

ps I did wire steel wool tightly around the perforated centre tube before filling the silencer so maybe it won't blow out so quickly ?

I am going to get down to MK in the near future and get mine checked with Pauls noisy meter.

thanks for that, nice to know i can get it tested if needs be to find out how far off i am.

quite tempted with one of them dBkillers for 15 quid fair enough i might be a bit slower but at least i wouldn't get kicked off track.

Rather Ironic is Donningtons Noise Limit, Considering its next to a bloody Airport!

Would love to see the official try and shove his microphone up a 737's Exhaust

If you go somewhere that has a 105db noise limit I wouldn't worry. It is very unlikely that your exhaust has got that much louder. When I went to Cadwell I wasn't tested. (Cadwell is the best!!!!) I wasn't tested at Brands either. The only place I have been tested on is airfield days. Though Donnigton, Castle Combe, Bedford autodrome and Goodwod have low noise limits and I am told they are very strict.

Hi,

If you are re-packing your silencer be careful with the use of wire wool as it is suprisingly flammable.

try putting a lighter to a small piece on the bench.

How do you put out a bench fire - the wool is fine

Typically an MK Sportscars supplied exhaust with a fireblade engine kick's out 104Db.
