I knew nothing about cars 1 year ago. Today i fired up my Pinto powered Indy, fitted with gsxr 600 carbs and a home made manifold. After a few mins of trying, and fault finding, tweaked the dizzy cap slightly (cheers Keith) and away she went. Brilliant Feeling.

You should know by now,completion dates come and go!

Had my Indy on a trackday trial run in Nov.2004 and I'm still messing with it.in fact its in bits again.

I notice you say 'homemade' manifold. As i'm in the same position as you seem to have been 1 year ago, i'm currently going through the learning process .

How did you make your manifolds?
What tools did you use?
How much did the manifold build cost?
How long did they take to complete?
How easy was it to fit an exhaust on them?

1. Had plate Lazer cut in 5mm stainless.£20. 4x 38.1mm bent tube (free)
2.None
3.£20, the tig welding was free
4.5 weeks, source pieces arrange free weld.
5.Exhaust ?

I say exhaust... as I thought the manifolds were also the (much longer) tubes (exhausts) which flow to the outside of the car body (for which a hole needs to be cut in the GRP - see below image)... how much do they cost to make then?

Unless you have access to a hydraulic tube bender and are a very good tig welder i would buy one. I waited and bought one from someone doing an engine change.

But again do these vary from engine to engine? Or do they all fit every engine (manifold)?

Also, does an engine from a donor not already have manifolds? Why would i need to pay for new ones?

The manifold takes the exhaust straight out of the side of the car. Leaving space for steering rack,alternator master cylinder. Go along to a couple of shows and look around at what is available. You can get some good deals at shows. Detling Show in Kent is on soon.
Manfolds turn up on LCB or flea bay from time to time when builders do an engine change. MK and Luego manifolds are exactly the same for the pinto engines and may be for others.
