Just made a comparison in excel of the Luego Velocity XT summer offer (priced at £3500) and the MK Indy Deluxe Kit (priced at £2500). The following are parts which it seems are not included in the Indy kit (but are in the Luego summer offer), is that because they can all be used from the donor sierra or what...?

You could use old steering arms and make your own downlink if you can weld, its easy.

you do get most of those parts in the mk kit.

Not by the looks of it from the MK Indy Pricelist pdf...

I got all of those apart from the Ali conversion boss??? and the fuel pipe in my Indy kit.

Why not give MK a call to clarify before placing your order? - The web site is not the best place to get information of this type.

Probably the easiest way, but for one i don't want to sound like a complete idiot asking them what a track rod end is for example, and two waste an hour of their time on the phone asking questions for which i can generally get answers for here...

I dont think any of the parts you listed can be had from the donor. Most of what is listed would be better bought new.

Appreciate what you're saying but the best way to do it - is to visit. MK lads are very helpful and MK are generally known as being the best value kit around. Saturday mornings are usually good at MK as there are plenty of people around who have done it, been there and have the T-Shirt - us included!

There are other good kits but we try not to be too biased as everyone has there strong points... what also needs to be decided is whether you are using a bike or a car engine as this has a significant effect on what you need/don't need.

last time i looked all of the above parts minus the fuel pipe (about 8 quid from B&Q) and the ali conversion boss (no idea what that is!) were included in the mk kit.

is the new mk site up and running now? i know the decent one they had went with charlie so they reverted back to a rather old version.

definately worth giving them a call about it. i'm sure if they don't come with the kit anymore they'd still do you some kinda deal which would still come in less than the 3.5k lego want

Not wanting to throw a spanner in the works have you considered MNR. There Vortx RT starter kit contains a fair bit of stuff for £3200 inc vat.

I have, but there could be a problem with getting a soft top and sides made for that atm... and for the £700 etc, i don't think you get as much as you do with MK, or am i wrong? Also, I truly despise their dash, it's impossible to customize it tbh...

This thread (escpecially zxrlocost reply) has put things into slightly more perspective for me now... it seems that £4k is no where near enough to finish a build ... hmm...

So how have people managed it in £3.5k then ...

I bought a Sierra and MK starter kit and just got building. Along the way you will end up researching to find out what bits you need/want and whether they will look right for your car. When I was ready I bought a set of MK bodywork and fuel tank.

So far I've probably spent about £4k, but nits that are offset , by swapping parts with other people, selling surplus bits and good ole' ebay.

At the end of the day, I can't believe there's that much in it between the different makes - I think it's how the individual chooses to spec and finish the car that alters the cost.

Picked up MK price list at Detling last weekend and there is a whole page of things that are not included in the Indy De Luxe kit. These seem to include such minor (hem, hem ) items as stainless exhaust system at £368, aluminium fuel tank at £105, wiring loom at £115. Things like lights, radiator, seats and steering wheel don't seem to be included in either MK or Luego, but I think this is fair as you would probably want to decide these for yourself. I would think the ali conversion boss is the bit that you screw into the steering swivels to convert from McPherson strut to upper wishbone configuration. Mk call this the mushroom insert and IS included.

Yes, it's going to cost you more than you originally thought but so does my G/F and the car would be more fun

Why don't you choose a kit on the looks? They are all good quality and the price is about the same but they dont look the same.

Also, if you want to save money you just have to be patient and crafty. For example I wanted an LSD for my car and so I bought a 4x4 Sierra and used it as a donor car then sold on all the bits I didn't need and it cost less than £100.

If you really want to do it cheaply buy a Robin Hood, I built a 2B for £4k and it looked great at the end. Pretty hard to build compared to a Luego though. The new lightweight is a steel at £2k all in, one donor car for £100 and you are almost there.

I reckon the longer you take to build it the less it will cost you, as long as you buy all the extras over time as, then you come across bargains, you can parts that you dont need and also it seems less if its over a longer period!

You could probably do a budget build for 4k quite easily i reckon. I reckon i can could of saved £1000 by using a donor engine, cheaper wheels, cheaper seats, cheaper dials etc...

two things to say
1. check your indy price,, it went up about £90 in march.. web is wrong.. i picked my kit up on sat ( well chuffed ) ;-)
2. you get all the parts on the list except track rod ends £4 each, top ball joints - ford transit darg arm end £6.80 each - - and the bottom ball joints (( austin maxi ) got quoted £60 each as they are obsolite but payed £13 from millfield autos in peterborough.. and they stock them)
