can not decide to have chassis powder coated or paint myself,what have others done.

Powder coat. Painting is a pain in the rear....so i have read many times on here.

Go for powder coating. My supplier never gave me the option and I have been savage about that fact ever since.

definitely powder coat. i value my time too highly to even consider wasting that amount on painting, which i hate doing too.

don't get it powder coated by mk though. get it home, clean the burrs and stuff off the round tubes, and make sure the chassis's cleaned up properly. after, take it for a shot blast, powder coat, at the same place if possible. ring round for quotes, and ask to see samples, as price and quality vary. mk subcontract the work, so charge on top of the cost of the job, and will most likely be more expensive than a job done locally.

mk's job isn't bad, and if you're after an easy first build, by all means let them do it, but as this one's my second, i decided i'd have it done locally, and sort the chassis completely. i am picky though

Tiger powder coated my chassis (Supercat). Not a very good job! I could have (and wish i did) paint the thing myself. I know it takes alot of work but you get the finish you want. And you only have one person to blame if your not happy!!

I'm sure other companies do a fine job. Just looks like mine was done in a hurry..... Make sure you do your homework, dont get tigers company to do it for you. (they employ outside agents for powder coating).

I had mine done by MAC#1, and since have had some done by a local company.

MAC#1 sub it out and was a whole lot better than the local company.

Do a search for how much tube goes into a chassis, I think it's been posted before, that'll change your mind about painting.

Have it done. I painted mine then painted it again. Its an absolute pain in the arse.

The reason i didnt do mine was i thought 300 quid that Luego wanted was a waste of money and couldnt bhe bothered to find somewhere else to do it.

Powder coat.

powder coat every time, got mine done last week with the ali sides on for £70! it looks so much better than you could ever get with a paint brush

And another for the powdercoat option.
MK had mine done, Its as hard as nails.

Powder coat it, just make sure the surface is prepared properly.
Used to work at a powder coaters and it'll peel/chip off if the surface prep' is crap

I hand painted mine, never again !! only trouble with powdercoating is make sure all the brackets you may need to add are done before hand else youll end up having to paint sections and that looks awful

One tip when going for the powder coat option ( you know you want to )

Try and choose a colour which matches one of the Hammerite colours. I went for silver and the Smoothrite paint is a close match and great for touching in those areas when you have to weld on that forgotten bracket or earth point.

if you go powder coat, try not to chip it, you will need lots of touch up paint,

Yup powder coat! nice smooth finish and i think there is something like 1000ft of tube to paint if you paint all of it (or thats what i've read on here!)

i think also that this response is 100% powder coat - have you made your mind up!!

Whilst I tend to agree that powder coat is a good finish, make sure it's done well. If it's not you will have more trouble than painting, (the root I have taken). As has been said preparation is key. Also note that powder coat will become a real pain once rust starts, as it tends to creap under the paint and comes off in chuncks.

I think the question you need to ask is how long you are expecting to keep the car. If it's a say <5 years powder coating is a good option, greater than this I have questions about using powder coating, as touching it up/stripping it is a bugger....

I had considerd blasting, hot zinc spaying, and etch primer, plus top coat (2 pack?). This I think would be the best apporach in the long run... But it is expensive...

I heard that although powder coat looks good at first, and is the easier option, but after time, chips rust and it spreads under the coat!! Because of this I had mine painted at my local spray shop. He made a cracking job by preparing it, etch primering it then spraying in two pack to match the car and then laquered to finish. Only downside is some overspray and high paint wastage but still cost about same as coat. I suppose it all depends on time availability of services to which option suits.

2 pack. Don't even think of that route. I removed and sprayed the interior panels of my sons custom car, thought paint was paint did it with just a std resparator wrong was really ill for months with a bad chest and headaches, if I have to use 2 pack I use an air powered resparator fed from a small compressor outside in the fresh air.
2 pack is carconagenik and is cyanide based most spray shops don't like using it for that reason, lovely hard finish though

You're DEAD right Tony!!! Excuse the pun, My mate who did the spraying always wears a full respirator and sings on how bad the stuff is if you breath it in. But as you said its a tough finish and thats what i wanted.

Indeed, don't spay the 2pack yourself! unless you know what you are doing..
