Steering wheel alignment Help?
INDY BIRD - 11/6/06 at 04:41 PM

I have purchased a mountey steering wheel and boss for my indy.

now fitted the steering wheel will not line up straight on the shaft.

the bottom of the steering wheel is at 5 oclock or if i try to move it around the hex shaft more it will co to 7 oclock.

any ideas how to line this up with the wheels straight.

had no probs with my old metal mountet 11" steering wheel this was lined up fine.

Thanks in advance.

You need to do it by adjusting the track rods. Wind one in and the other out by exactly the same amount until you're happy with the wheel position.

If you have a splined joint in your steering shaft such as at the rack you can take this adjustment there.

Allways better to have a centralised rack, rather than adjust track rod ends or you will run out of turn on one side.
Centralise the rack and then undo the spline on the column. Centralise the wheel and then retighten the spline.

Have just done exactly this. if you are using same rack (mk 2 escort) there is no master spline so can be adjusted to any position, doesn't take long, just a 5 minute job.
