Hi I was looking at building one when down to the factory had a drive and was hooked. But like you I done think I can afford it at present. The only down side I can see to the car is the chain drive witch I am not that keen on but any thing similar is so much more expensive I decided I could live with it.

Any way I did a budget a while back 6 months to a year ago before the web site was up dated so maybe the prices have changed I am not sure. But I recon that you could build one for 6.5 K if you where strict with your self and had some odds and sods kicking about already.

I have also herd some people talking about the GT 1 being fitted with a V8 but you would need to talk to other people on the site to confirm that.

if you don't like the chain drive, why not turn the engine through 90 degrees and stick a short prop to a sierra lsd on the back, can't be that much work if you're a true locoster....

Ned.

Chain driven diffs have been successfully used for years. Have a look at this site showing one in a mini with rear Blackbird engine.

I had thourt of turning the engine through 90 and using a prop shaft and was very keen on that idea unfortunately it still came down to cost so decided to leave the GT-1 for a couple of yeas until I could afford to build one

Then I thort about building my owe designed 2 seat one behind the other. mid engine bike powered creation. Using the front of a locost for the suspension and steering and the IRS rear end fitting a bike engine and some seats in-between. However I then looked at the work and cost and time involved in the body work based on the experience of other hear i.e. Alen B and others and discounted this idea. Then I tried using the locost nose and wings witch works well but I still need a couple of panels.

The conclusion so far is that I have not really completely decided what I am building yet I have lots of ideas and I am trying to narrow them down

There will never be a factory GT1 with a V8 in it. The GT1 will only ever be bike engined. Don't know where you heard the rumour but it's all tosh!

Yes, I wouldn't have thought there would be room for a V8...and transaxle....

Not sure it would be desirable anyway.....

Jon Ison works at Palamatic in Chesterfield, I work at MK Engineering in Langold. Jon Ison don't know poo from sugar! This is from the horses mouth. Oh and to add fuel to the fire I said 'The GT1 will only ever be bike engined'.
Work it out!
