I have been told the indy chassis is same length and same width as standard locost chassis and only an 1" taller and the extra width is in the
wishbones and track width.
Does this mean i can use standard size parts from any locost manufacture that produces standard size parts ie bonnet etc?
I wanted to stick to the original chassis size as much as possible so the car didn’t look out of proportion. Does the indy look correctly in
proportion?
Gremlin,
the indy does look 'in proportion' IMO. the chassis is slightly bigger, I couldn't tell you dimensions as I don't know them!
The main differences from the book are the sierra based IRS and the 'bent' tubes which is currently my point of debate.
It is slightly wider, definately in the seating area and the chassis is slightly taller to accept the pinto.
Ned.
The chassis is not wider or longer, the only mods made to the chassis overall dims is an increase in 1" height in the engine area to accomodate the tall pinto engine. the track is kept by increasing the wishbone length. My knowledge of this comes from Bob, who has an MK chassis himself.
So in that case if i went indy i could use other parts from different locost manufactures apart from the wishbones etc which come with the kit
anyway?
Just worried that by the time i finish the build MK might not stock some of the parts i need so don’t like to put all eggs in one basket.
don't worry about mk not stocking the bits, what you don't get with the chassis should be easily obtainable elsewhere or makable!
I also can't see MK not stocking any bits you need in the near future.
Not to mention names, but some other companies produce very similar chassis' so they could always be contacted if absolutely necessary.
Ned.
