Hi everyone, nice to be here.

I am interesting in building a mk indy, but the mk site doesnt provide me with enough info, can anyone answer some of my questions.

1. what sort of build cost can i budget for
2. do you get a build manual, and if so how good is it?
3. can you buy the kit in stages

hi for a nice looking fast car budget at least 5.5 6k

all the little things add up big style believe me

there build manual is useless its a piece of a4 paper thats what this site is for

Estimate about £5k upwards to build,

The build manual is not brilliant but everything you need to know can be asked on here,.

Yes you can buy in stages, But go for a powder coated chassis and wishbones if you can, I did, and I reckon it saves a pain job painting it.
Have a good look through peoples picture archives and build diaries.

Is there alot of work in getting the build parts in hape ready to fit to the car i.e. do you have to cut the body panels or do they come already cut etc, as I know some kits are like mechano (westi) and some you have to do the lot.

go around and visit as many shows as you can and see if theres someone local its great to be able to look at another indy as your building yours, i use andy (ash3) as he lives up the road from me and he runs the mk owners club.

oh and hide things from the mrs as she'll moan at how much your spending.

all the kits are like a lego kit with just a little fine tuning

Just started building mine, the manual's not great but then to be fair neither are many of the others I've looked at.
If you want a fit part A to part B type build then you'd better look at Westfield / Caterham but you'll pay for it.
It's not that difficult & the head scratching is part of the fun of it (sometimes). As the others have said, everyone else has hit the same problems at some stage & the answer is usually just a post away!

I'm reckoning on about 7 - 7.5K for the build without going mad - but I've gone for the new chassis so that's pushed it up £600 already.

and if GTS rings your ring thats all that matters........

The standard Indy does have camber gain and is probably very similar to other manufacturers.

it was perfect for my fast road driving

The only bells that ring for me with GTS are alarm bells.

By the way Mark I presume you will be in your tin top when you help the Indy owner,

Forget CalvInX. MK took me around Brands Hatch last year in their demonstrator & it stuck to the track like glue, went so fast it scared the hell out of me & no hint of losing it at the back. I'll be chuffed if I can ever drive that quick.
Most of the guys on here regard MK as a respectable business. I've certainly had no problems dealing with them & they've delivered the goods which is more than can be said for some other businesses.

I spoke to them at Donnington. They said that it was possible to build at a budget of £4K. Though I guess thats using Sierra clocks and cheap dashboard (something you can replace with nice kit later).

As for budget it depends on what you want to spend. I'm aiming for £4K knowing that I will overshoot but if you aim for £6K you end up spending £7K when you see some nice and shiney bits to buy and those extra little flash bits you want

If I hadn't of panic bought a donor I could have got the bits for less. I've got about 1.75 sets of donor parts now and the other bits I aquired at very reasonable prices.

The manual is downloadable and pretty much "guidance" rather than Westfield quality. I'm planning to write a new manual as I go along, mostly as reference to what, but hopefull as some use to other people too.

There are a few build diaries on line but the good ones seem to be BEC based, unless I've missed a few.

You can buy bits individually or a basic or delux kit. The basic kit offers quite a good saving over individual parts. The delux kit in proportion not such a good saving, although still you save a bit.

What you need to add to the cost of bits is things such as postage or travel costs to pick up. When you look at this, buying parts one or two at a time suddenly becomes alot more expensive than you realise.

If you don't think it's worth it, then just go for the Indy chassis. You won't be disappointed.

Having never driven an MK with the new chassis, I personally couldn't tell you if it's worth the extra money or not though.

Please all potential Kit Buyers Read Pauls Post properly he says the New kit chassis is excellent but doesnt say theres anything wrong with the old chassis

that inboard suspension is like that mnr use?

It is its own inboard system Mark,and the MNR vortex + does also have inboard suspension,but MK's is designed specifically for the new chassis,and is totally unique to the spec-R.
