After reading an article about the ADR1000 track car i got to thinking about using a BMW bike engine to power my Indy. I have visited ADR with a
friend and was very impressed with what they do there.
The engine (K1200) produces 145bhp and is very tough. Also you can have a reverse gear put in if desired. The whole engine mounts on a plate with 4
bolts which i think could be done on the Indy Chassis except i would weld on corner plates where necessary.
The gearbox is on the back with the drive shaft facing rear so only minor mods would do there. The only thing i can see against it is the lack of
tuning ability but for a rugged engine i don't think it can be beat!!!
What do you lot think?

have a look at the shaft outputand check rotation is same as your diff ,kwak are on the left thus i had to turn the diff upsidedown on one of my trikes, honda right hand side so the diff in my st1100 is the right way up, BM i do not know LENNY
Everything looks ok in the ADR as far as i can remember. I'll have to get hold of my mates pics and see what's what!

for the beam axle they use a morris minor axle if that helps. though they have more recently developed an IRS version...

Yeah they do use a moggy rear axle which is the same as an MG midget one.
The thing i'm most concerned about is the width of the engine. It would need to clear the steering column and brake resevoire/master cylinder on
the drivers side so i need the engine dimentions first. Luckily the Indy is quite wide so i may get away with it.

it'll be interesting to see, i suspect it will be a problem (size wise) as it's a flat engine IIRC. you have to remember they use it in rear
engined format, so no steering column to clear inthe adr1000!

I did visit the ADR set-up about 3 months ago so i'm well awaire of what goes where. It would be nice if it could fit ok, if not don't
Yamaha or someone make a V41000cc jobbie? it was in one of the kit car mags a few months ago and it was in a Stewart taylor chassis.
I have even been looking at Harley Davidson engines but they are SO out the question although it would sound awesome!!!

whats wrong with the pinto you've only recently fitted??
if thinking bike engine, why not go a proven route such as ninja or blade?

There's probably nowt wrong with my pinto (fingers crossed0 i'm just thinking ahead for when i get board with the pinto. it is quite a heavy
engine so a bit more power and less weight will hopefully be a good replacement when the time comes.
If i have a spare couple of grand then i would love to put in a Hyabusa engine but that will have to wait for a while...unless i win the lottery!!

indeed it is going in a 7 chassis plans are almost complete engine has been dynoed at 420 bhp and 440 lbf.
On the dyno at 3000rpm it consumed fuel at the rate of 20mpg (almost as good as my old scooby) based on the gearing i'm using so a tenner should
last
longer than 3 mins i hope.
