Gear mechanism mounting (BEC R1)
StevieB - 17/4/07 at 02:32 PM

Can anyone help me out with how to mount my gear stick and the mechnism.

I was going to mount the mechnism to the engine cradle, just above the lever on the engine, but am worried about compromising the strength of the cradle (though, I guess I'll have to compromise something wherever I mount it).

The other bit I'm struggling with is the lever itself - MK didn't attach the tabs before powder coating, so I need a way of mounting the stick securely.

Any help and pics would be hugely appreciated.

I did originally have one on my order from MK, but Phil wasn't happy to sell it to me as he didn't rate it at the time.

But yes, I would rather have a paddle shift - as long as I can think of another way of mounting the original bike switchgear that I want to use (maybe an aircraft style joystick in the centre tunnel?)

I also wanted a paddle shift to start off with, but after I drove one, I reckon I can change gear quicker with a conventional shift - obviously thats just my opinion, but for that reason alone it's worth sticking with a gearlever.

Steve.

and here is a pic of the lever mounted...

Interestingly enough since changing to paddleshift I have found it quite difficult to get used to as there just simply isn't as much leverage as there is with a stick.

Sometimes I find that going across the box from 1st to 2nd it slips into nuetral and the adjustment is more limited.

I will see how it goes as I can revert back easily as I left all the stick bits in.

Rich.

Where did you get the gear knob, was it from MAC?

Cheers

Afraid not Tim, I made it myself!
I still have a bit of Ali left if you are interested?

Cheers,
Steve.
