Front wishbone fit
Catpuss - 12/5/07 at 08:27 AM

Hi,
Back end wishbones went on a treat (still waiting for Mr Postman to deliver the upper links).

I've now managed to get the front wishbones on but they were an absolute sod to fit. I had to pull them appart with all my strengh and givem em what for with a wodden mallet to get them in. It looked like the brackets are about 1mm too close together. Once on it looks like I can insert a washer in the spaces on the other side.

The inners of the wishbones were dressed up and the bushes went on fine so its not that the bushes are poorly fitted.

Is this normal for an Indy? Considering how easy the rears went on I thought I would ask here. I would have thought, as its a jig made frame, that the brackets would be the same for everyone.

Yea sounds fairly "normal".
Put plenty og grease on and they'll bed in

Normal! The brackets are in the exact possition from the jig, the wishbone distorts as it's welded, as there is no cross member to stop it (as for most 7's)..

Thank feck for that I was a bit worried about it at first. Sods law would say I got the frame where the jig was warped

Up to now most bits have gone on OK. I've had to insert one washer shim in the upper diff mount though I may make two half thickness ones later to even it out.

Just waiting for the postie to deliver the missing bits. The guy Wayne from CJ Engineering has been ruddy helpful with bolts e.t.c as, being not too far from me, he has been dropping them off on the way home. With the nipper being off school sick its been a right PITA building this week.

I just wish the flipping upper rear links had turned up in the post today.

mine was a little stiff as well.

mine was the opposite, fronts went in easy-peasy, rears were a sod getting the uprights on to the wishbones

Just a thought (nothing to do with the fit )you have put the front upper wishbones in the right way , you won't be the first to put them on wrong
